m 1968 Commencement But Now We Must Bid Farewell... Valedictory In all our lives there comes a time when a separation and a fare- well must be endured. For us graduating tonight, such a time has come. Perhaps it is only now we realize that this is the last time we will be part of this great school which has provided so valuable an education. The term education covers a broad range of meanings and not only did Delta provide for us the opportunity of developing our intellects in study but, equally important, developing ourselves socially and physi- cally in her extracurricular life. It is impossible to overestimate the influence of our teachers either in the classroom or out of it and I sometimes wonder whether they realize their power to shape a life or change a destiny. Our debt to them will probably remain forever un- paid. Now in a somewhat different light, we look back over the past four years and recall the old times we know will never be again. We remember with a sort of fascinated horror the clothes we wore in grade nine; we remember dragging ourselves out of bed the first day of Christmas holidays to come to the annual concert; we remember the ecstasy of the day we won the football championship and the unauthorized celebrations which followed it; we remember the winter carnivals, the dances, auditoriums and much, much more-and yet as students we can not forget the excuses made for late assignments, the agonizing exam weeks and the reports to be signed. These are all a part of that of which we now take leave. There is something however which will not be left behind and which I hope will remain with each one of us. That unique and abstract quality - School Spirit. This Spirit is what we need and what we will need for spirit is the essence of youth - it is the quality which meant the difference between winning or losing; the quality which will determine our success or failure. This spirit coupled with the training we have received here at Delta will be instru- mental in helping us to achieve our aims and to conduct ourselves in the fall of future problems and difficulties. At Delta we have received a firm foundation and however com- plex and challenging the road to success may seem to be, I feel that Delta has adequately prepared us for it. But now we must bid farewell. We leave Delta tonight for the last time. Even though our stay will have ended, the memory will forever linger on, and sometime in the future when others ask us where we came from, we will then remember our Alma Mater, and tell them proudly that we came from DELTA.
