After arriving in Anchorage, Alaska, they visited with Mrs. Ray Boomershine the former Marilyn Alderson. They found that after graduation Marilyn and Ray got married and moved to Alaska, where Ray is stationed with the U.S. Air Force They have three little Eskimos at the present time. This is all of their classmates, so they left For home. Shirley had to be back in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she had worked since graduating from high school. Bidding Shirley farewell, Dixie, and Marilyn boarded their private plane For Paris, France. All in Fun by: Shirley B. and Carlyn R. Farewell We, the members of the Deltan Staff who are about to depart as graduates of 1961, sincerely hope that in the future years this memorable issue ofthe Deltan will be cherished as a memento of happy times and happenings at Delta High School. Also, we hope that this book will bring back many happy mem- ories For the alumni and forthe students who are still in school. For most of these last years, the whole class of 1961 have had a lot of Fun being together. Now the time has come For us to say goodbye. We hesitate as we leave because we haveshared so many good times together. But, on leaving our school, we Find the courage to look up and face the future. What- ever our future may bring, we hope that we can look back at this book and think of some of the good times and laughs we had in school. lf this happens, we can say that our effort to establish this book has been For the better. Prophec Shirley Benson, while on a trip to Paris, decided to visit an old classmate, Marilyn Rose, who is now singing with an opera company in Paris. Marilyn met and married a baritone singer. They now have two tenors and a soprano. They are well on the way to constructing a full scale. A few days later Marilyn and Shirley met another classmate, Dixie Strong. Dixie, after graduation, attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. Through this course, she was offered a iob as a secretary to a French actor and now lives in Paris. She likes her boss's company very well. Dixie, Marilyn, and Shirley, after a long visit, decided to fly back to the United States to visit the rest of the graduates of 1961. The first stop was in Detroit, Michigan, where they were delighted to meet Barbara Lippard on the street. Barbara told them that soon after graduation she changed her name to Mrs. Larry Barthelman. Her family consists of two sets of twin daughters and a set of triplet boys. After bidding them farewell, they left Detroit and flew to New York. ln New York, they met Ron Streigle on the avenue. He is an eligible bachelor and told them that he was president of the biggest mechanical industry in the world. After talking with Ron, they left for Hollywood to look up their old class- mate, Jack Gatewood. Jack is now married to a glamorous movie star. When meeting him, he told them his wife was working with the Bowery Boys. Since one of the regulars is deceased, Jack is now the star of the Three Stooges. ln- deed he could fit the part! He has a family of two girls and three boys. Finding their time is running out, they decided to depart and head for Miami, Florida, for a visit with Karen Kerr. Karen is now Mrs. Newell Hart. She lives with her husband in the booming town of Miami. Newell is the presi- dent of the biggest orange factory in the world. Their family consists of two little Harts. While chatting with Karen she told them of another classmate, Carlyn Raplinger, who now lives in Hawaii. Carlyn is now married to Jim Kiefer. Their family consists of little Jimmy, Jr. and a three-month old baby girl, Kelly Jean. They told Carlyn of their visits to their old classmates, and she suggested that they stop in to chat with Bob Richmond. . Bob, after graduation, left for Texas to find a iob. Two years later after Karen Lippard graduated, she became Mrs. Bob Richmond. They have two fine boys. Bob is self-employed at one of his many oil wells. Finding another of their classmates living close by, they decided to drop in and visit with him. James Orville Leinen and Linda Grace Leathers became united in holy matrimony after she graduatedin 1963. James is the head of an engineering office. They are not parents yet. Bidding Jim and Linda farewell, they left for Alaska. .. I

History ln the Fall of 1949, seventeen new students enrolled in first grade. Of those starting that day, only two were destined to complete their high school education, here in 1960, as part of a class, now consisting of eleven. Those children begin- ning were: Donald Appleget, Linda Curry, Jack Gatewood, Rita Green, Judith Henry, Wilma Knox, Lyle Krewson, Janet McKeag, Linda Moore, Wanda Sampson, Carol Sue Sarvis, Karen Kay Tharp, David Stanley, Albert Johnson, Don Haeld, Shirley Benson, and Darlene Dyson. Our teacher was Miss Avis Converse. Going on into second grade, David Appleget, Donald Bird, Ardis Bos, and Clifford Coble ioined us, but we lost Rita Green, Wanda Sampson, Carol Sue Sarvis, Karen Kay Tharp, David Stanley, Albert Johnson, and Don Haeld. Our teacher was Mrs. Waneta McNabb. Mrs. Gladys Williams was our fourth and fifth grade teacher. ln fourth grade we gained Carlyn Raplinger,,Leonard Hamilton, Bobby Lytle, and Karen Kerr. We lost Carl Post, Kay Post, and Judy Post. Continuing on into fifth grade we gained Judy Ellis and lost Don Appleget, Dave Appleget, Wilma Knox, Bob Richmond, Clifford Cobble, Bobby Lytle, and Michael Kuntz. Our teacher in sixth grade was Mr. Ernie McBeth. We lost Judy Ellis and Marilyn Alderson in March. Marilyn Alderson and Bob Richmond joined us again at mid-term during seven- th grade with Mrs. Phyllis Strong as our teacher. During the eighth grade we gained Ronnie Streigle and lost Judy Henry and Leonard Hamilton. Mr. Findley was our teacher. Fourteen green freshmen entered high school in T957 at Delta. They were: Jack Gatewood, Bob Richmond, Ronnie Streigle, Jim Leinen, Ray Amber, Gladys VanPatten, Shirley Benson, Linda Moore, Marilyn Alderson, Barbara Lippard, Marilyn Rose, Dixie Strong, Carlyn Raplinger, and Karen Kerr. At mid-term we lost Gladys VanPatten, Linda Moore and Raymond Amber. Our class sponsor was Mr. Humphrey. We all survived the sophomore year and made it through our iunior year also, without losing or gaining any. Class sponsor when we were sophomores was Mr. Ronald Goldsmith. Mrs. Osa Gideon was our class sponsor when we were iuniors. To begin the last and most important year of our high school education, the seniors were still eleven in number. We hadn 't lost or gained since mid-term when we were freshmen. The eleven completing are: Marilyn Alderson, Shirley Benson, Jack Gatewood, Karen Kerr, Jim Leinen, Barbara Lippard,Carlyn Raplinger, Bob Richmond, Marilyn Rose, Ronnie Streigle, and Dixie Strong.
