Decisions 76 The eligible electorate for. the November 2nd Presidential ballot was 150 million voters nationwide, 13 thousand of them Delta faculty and students, Candidates from all levels of of- fice visited the campus. Don Riegle, Democratic contender for the Senate seat and his opponent Marvin Esch shoo k tne proverbial handshakes. E, Brady Denton and J. Bob Trax- ler were also on hand to talk to the students while vying for the 8th Congressional seat. President Gerald Ford and presi- dential hopeful,Jimmy Carter, visit- ed the Tri-City area along with many local candidates. The issues were hot and heavy. The private lives of candidates were of major concern and whether or not they can be used for campaign dis- cussion; the way foreign policies were structured also came under fire. Other campaign discussion included the high unemployment situation plus how to deal with the present econ- omy. Four proposals were on the state ballot. They included a ban on throwaway bottles, lowering the age to become a legislator, a rewriting the graduated income tax system and a ceiling on state spending. 1. Brady Denton, Republican can- didate for Congress. 4, Senator Birch Bayh of Indiana blasts Republicans at Saginaw Val- ley State College. 5.
