THE PRESlDENT'S SPEECH I would like to welcome everyone here to- night--our parents, teachers, board members, and special guests. l'd like to welcome you to the end of the 12 most special years in our lives and to the beginning--of a new life. A new life in which we will change our images from boys and girls to men and women. A new life that will be shaped from our understanding of the education which our parents and teachers have worked so hard to give us. I would like to thank our parents and teachers for all the help that they have given us through school. Whether we further our education in col- lege or begin working now will be one of our first decisions as an adult. VVe will no longer be led by the hand and our decisions made for us. Our future depends upon each individual graduate. The future of our country and the world de- pends on the young people. The things that are happening in the world today would indicate that we are headed for a future that will not be easy. Each person has to do his or her part, so I'd like to challenge my classmates to do everything in our power to make our communities, our coun- try and the world a better place in which to live. 3 THIS PAGE SPONSORED BY M 81 L FURNITURE AND APPLIANCES KENNETT, Missoum STUDENT COUNCIL 'Y Ill lplli President--Jackie Ratliffg Vice President--Dwight Blankenshipg Secretary--Janet Hogan Treasurer--Carolyn Elder. The best substitutes for ability in any field of endeavor are hard work and sacrifice. When a team comes along with some ability and a willingness to work hard and use this ability, you have the key ingredients for success. I! i Last minute tips. 1 ' 4 THIS PAGE IS SPONSORED BY: STEELE, MISSOURI This yearbook is a different style than that of previous yearbooks, and it's only fitting for these comments to be likewise. This has been a year in which many of us were given the opportunity to see two sides of the people associated with this school. A lot of things happened during this past year that will never be forgotten. Some of them were good and some were bad, it just depends on which side of the fence you're on. Pemiscot County. is one of the last counties, as usual, in the state of Missouri to have community teachers' organizations. All of the other counties have teachers' organizations from each community--hence, we have the C. T.A. , whose purpose is to better the de- velopment of the education of a school. I cannot describe the feelings of the teachers, administrators, or board of education--but I can tell about the students' side. The atmo- sphere at school has changed considerably. The pressure caused by the friction has made many of us who used to like school hate it. When the wheel was first invented, it was square and it wouldn't turn, but when the cor- ners were rounded off, it turned. That's what we have, a square: students, teachers, ad- ministrators, and board of education, each one in a corner. If everybody would be con- cerned about the outcome and not if he's going to give more than the other, we would have a circle, moving again. There are four teachers that I will always have a special feeling for: Mr. Harold Blocker-- because he's a teacher and a friend to everyone in class and he won't give a point to you just so you can make a higher letter grade, if you don't earn it, it's not his to give. Mrs. Jackie Blankenship--because she is truly a dedicated teacher, she may talk all class hour but out of the six people from this school who have taken the CLEP Test, all six clep- ped out of basic mathematics and this has to mean something. Mrs. Connie Anderson--I never took her class, but from working with her in F. H.A, , she was so easy to get along with and we became such good friends at the State Convention we called her Mama. Mrs. Ronda Hogan--I was frightened to death at the beginning of the year because I knew very little about the yearbook and she was new and I just knew it would never get finished But we trusted each other and together with a few other staff members, this book was completed. I also had Mrs. Hogan in bookkeeping and our class was a riot, it was the only class I looked forward to. To Mrs. Hogan and Mrs. Sandy Huff go my sincere thanks and appreciation, because without them I could never have pulled this job off. I also want to thank those staff mem- bers who put in hours working on this book. lt's been fun working on the staff and I hope my friend Mary has as many good memories as I have but less headaches next year.
