1 1 I H5 THE ORACLE OF l957 DELPHI HIGH SC Delphi Indian THE CENTER GF DELPHI'S DELPHI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITY IS . . . 1 . . . WHERE WE ENJCDY WORKING TOGETHER We have discovered that one of the most valuable assets we can have in life is the art of cooperation -the knack of working together. Here in our own world we have many opportunities to cultivate and develop this art. There are many or- ganizations-acaclemic, athletic, and social-in which we must work with each other for the good of all. We have learned that working together can be fun as well as profitable, that many problems can be solved and many good times had by work- ing, thinking, and playing together. 6 O 0 Of no lesser importance is the art of making friends, friends that will outlast our high school days and become more meaningful as the years roll on. We can- not forget the many friendships we have cultivated at Delphi High School and all the wonderful times we have had with our friends. As time moves on, we will expect to make new friends, but our dearest friends will always be those from our days at D.H.S. So as we continue and conclude our high school career and go out into life, we will have a treasury filled with friendships to remember. The day of the nctory dance ACQUIRI N l That last minute cramming for an exam, doing research for a term paper, the struggle to understand Latin, algebra or chemistry, the frantic rush to get assignments turned in by the dead-line, all these hectic activities play a great part in the acquiring of knowledge-the quest for understanding. Although our academic life can get pretty hec- tic at times, most of us wouldn't trade places with anyone because we realize that after we have passed through these portals and then gone away from our beloved high school, we will be able to use our knowl- edge to carve a better place in the world for ourselves. During our high school days we first begin to think of our future. In this modern world, where so many iobs and opportunities are open to us, we sometimes find it difficult to decide lust what path of life we will follow. But whatever way we decide to go, our ,first preparations are in high school. With wise guidance, careful study, and deep thought, we will be able to prepare for a successful future. We will remember that success is not always measured by fame or fortune, but most gen- erally by happiness and love. l E l Learning the mimeog raph Learning to work with their hands PREP Rl G FOR THE FUTURE RTI IP TING IRLY. . . Mr. Ber1o's Gymnasts Football boosters Not whether we win or lose, but how we play the game. This thought has always been foremost in our minds. While the rec- ords of our athletics, speech, and music de- partments make us very proud, we are even more proud of the fact that we have partic- ipated fairly. Each time we have gone out to play, speak, or perform, we have taken with us the desire to win, and whether we have won or lost, we have done our best. WIN QR LOSE ADDI G SPARKLE TO DELPHI LIFE Community sponsored victory rally But while we are talking about our studies and our futures, let us not 'Forget the lighter side of life, the good times we have had and the good times we hope to have. Most of us will long remember such things as: after ballgame dances, meeting the gang at the drugstore, a ride in a special someone's car, or the chance to walk that certain some- body to class. No, we will not soon forget the happy and wonderful times we have experienced during our brief stay at Delphi High School. 1 A i 2 E I 2 Q Q i 4 QMECCMING HIGHLIGHT The traditional parade in the afternoon, featur- ing candidates from each sponsoring organization, began the elaborate Homecoming festivities for the 1956 football season. Climaxed with the crowning of Queen Sue Braudaway by Mayor Roy Clauser, our Homecom- ing proved to be a unique event. Sparkling new convertibles replaced the colorful floats of past years. The High Steppersf' in their new whites purchased for the event, added a delightful back- ground for the Queen's crowning. At Christmas time, the members sold Christ- mas cards. A tradition of the club is the annual trip taken to various points of scientific interest. Each member of the group contributed something of merit and President Joe Messick, Vice President Jerry Wagner, Sec- retary Helen Crosby, Treasurer Nancy Girton, and Reporter Ron Logan were able leaders. To help encourage thrift, the Student Council undertook the selling of saving stamps. Their annual talent show went off nicely also. The autumn sun was hot, the football field dry and dusty but the spirit of this group was undying. They were rewarded by praise from all who attended the games. The pride and ioy of the High Steppers were the new white spats, cross-belts, gloves and cap covers pur- chased by the Band Parents. Circus Band -This unit, composed of 20 boys, marched and played for a political rally, and various other things. Jug Band -The Delphi Philhar- monic Jug Band was first formed this year. lts members play on Jugs, bot- tles, and fifes. They have performed at concerts, and special programs of service clubs in and about Delphi. They have always been received quite well and are welcomed where ever they have played. Concert Symphony Band -This group played for the spring concert and consists of 45 members of the Senior Band who play first chair posi- tions. They appeared on TV last winter with the Jug Band. DELPHIAN S AFF A day that is looked forward to by all the stu- dents of D.H.S. is that day in which the school paper is distributed. Under the expert direction of Mr. Louis Kent the Delphian Staff strives to make the paper informative as well as amusing. There are many features of the paper, all of which are very interesting, but the page the students turn to first is the Cheap TaIk. Each time the paper comes out, the girls are assigned to a different iob. ln this way, each girl has something new to learn and to do. ORACLE The Oracle Staff has spent much time and effort in preparing the '57 Oracle for you the students. It was hard work but everyone had fun, and when the work was done each had a feeling of accom- plishment. The staff could not have successfully finished the Oracle without the excellent direction of Mr. Dan McMillen and the Editor-in-Chief, Ned Rule, who spent two weeks last summer at Indiana University Journalism Clinic to prepare himself for this very responsible duty. S NIQR PL The Senior Class of 1957 presented three one-act plays as their final play performance. This was a first for Delphi-the first time an evening of three one-act plays had been presented. The director, Robert Jerry, the student director, Nancy Girton, and the casts were very proud of the performance which was given November 9 and 10. We sincerely hope that those persons who saw our plays enioyed them as much as we en- ioyed bringing them to you. By our pres- entation of these plays we hope we have left behind, as we close the doors of our high school days, a very memorable impres- sion of our class of 1957. P. Furst President S.
