Inex er- P ience, lack of size, along with several injuries, didn't deter the spirit of the twe fiv nty- e man squad, who showed well ln their first season of organized league play. Seniors Pete Kittleson and Tom johns led the Purple Eagles to their only victory over the Salamanca J-V's, 26-12, thus endlng the season on a winning note. The record was one win, one tie and five losses. Lynn Stafford, Fred Isaman, Ed Smith, and Bill Rogers all played steady football for the D-M team. At the time of this writing the basketball team is undergoing a rough season. The record is won three, lost ten. A lack of height and an inability to make a better percentage of their shots have added to the woes of the Purple Eagles. The one shining point in the season has been our defensive play. While our offense has not reached its maximum effectiveness, our defense has kept us in many ball games. Seniors Pete Klttleson, Clair Prutsman, and Paul Gretzler end their careers this season. Roger Smith, Bill Rogers, Ed Smith, and Sophomore Gary Benzel have shown much hustle so far this season. With three league games remaining to be played they have compiled a won 6, lost 1 record topping all othem in the Cattaraugus county I-V. league. The experience they have obtained will prove worthwhile during their coming varsity years. 41
