Oh my aching back! That was the gen- eral opinion of all the hardy Del-Mac athletes after the first few days of prac- tice for our 1952 football season. The first week was spent in getting rid of the kinks which resulted from soft summer living and after this prelim the boys settled down to real work. This work produced miracles. D.M., who rated low on the C league totempole blossom- ed out with a stonewall line and back- field defense, and a good passing, better running offense. The first test of ability was staged at the Delevan athletic field against Little Valley. After a fair first half the boys were down by one touchdown, but things grew worse. In the third quarter D.M. managed one T.D. but Little Valley re- taliated with three. Suddenly D.M. ex- ploded with an amazing string of three touchdowns in the same number of min- utes. However, this rally was not enough and D.M. went down to a three point defeat. Down from this loss D.M. went to Arcade where they suffered a 34-l2 smashing in the annual night game. A team with two losses, and no wins has no' right to be cocky, but D.M. was just that when they arrived at West Valley and they were even more cocky when they returned after trouncing W.V. 42-24 for D.M.C.S.'s first football win in history. This win was just what the Doc fMalinoskiJ ordered. Now thoroughly pepped up D.M. crashed to an easy vic- tory over Ellicottville. D.M. was now carrying a 2-2 record to Olean's Brad- ners Stadium to face Hinsdale. The game was a classic and was climaxed by Gary Relyea's 64 yard run to make it 27-0. With revenge as a motivating force D.M. clashed once again with powerful Arcade, and in an amazing exhibition of teamwork, overwhelmed the Orange and Black by a lopsided score of 37-13. The Ellicottville game was very dif- ferent from other games in many ways. The 48-0 score four favorl was the worst blanking any team had received all year, and the game was climaxed in a raging snowstorm which all but ob- scured the white clad Ellieottville players. Although we lost the title by three points to Little Valley, the season was very satisfactory in that the football jinx at D.M. had been broken. We all look forward to next year's season which we all hope will bring D.M. het first football title.
