Delcambre runs streak to 6-0, faces showdown DELCAMBRE — Delcambre High ran its winning streak to six games, continued undefeated in district play and set up a classic showdown with Sacred Heart all in one swipe with its 20-8 victory over Hanson High in a District 9-A game here Friday night. Coach Don Dunbar’s Panthers scored twice in the first period and once in the last while holding the Tigers from Franklin to but one sdore in the second quarter, to win the decision. Leading the Delcambre offensive attack was Tailback Don Dunbar, Jr., who picked up 93 yards in 20 carries. Fullback Todd LeBlanc also had a good night for the Panthers with 75 yards in 17 carries. For Hanson brilliant Tony Cain had 88 yards rushing in 17 attempts and Fullback Brian Bolner had 32 yards on 10 tries. Delcambre drove 53 yards in 11 plays for its first touchdown, with LeBlanc plunging over from two yards out with 6:57 left in the period. LeBlanc also kicked the extra point to make it 7-0. Then with 40 seconds remaining in the quarter, Delcambre scored again on a one-yard plunge by Dunbar, capping a 53 yard drive in nine plays. LeBlanc missed the extra point attempt. Hanson got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when it moved 80 yards in 12 plays for a score with 7:59 left in the half. Quarterback Sonny Charpentier completed a nine-yard pass to Mim Ibert. The try for the two point conversion was good, a pass from Charpentier to Kirk Pontiff. Following a bad Hanson punt that gave Delcambre the ball on the Hanson 25, the Panthers drove the 25 yards in 5 plays for its final score of ’the game. Quarterback Benny Thibodeaux scored on a sneak from one yard out, and LeBlanc’s extra point made the final 20-8. Delcambre is now 6-0 overall and 3-0 in district play and Hanson is 3- 2-1 and 1-2. Sacred Heart stampedes Delcambre DELCAMBRE — Delcambre High saw its hopes for an upset disappear under a stampede as Sacred Heart of Ville Platte romped to a 41-0 win in a District 9- A battle here Friday night. Tailback Biff David lived ud to his pre-game billing by scoring four touchdowns, one a 92-yard kickoff return, in the contest. The visiting team scored its first touchdown when David plunged two yards for a TD up the middle with 1:49 left in the first period to complete a 49-yard drive in six plays. The kick by Tim Vidrine made it 7-0. Sacred Heart drove 45 yards in the second quarter and David took it over from three yards out, off left tackle, for a touchdown with 4:49 TACKLES: Dean Duhon, Keith Landry, Robert Romero, Bill Derise, Johnny Migues, Carl LeBlanc, Louis Derise, Danny Ronsonet left to play in the half. The lead increased to 14-0 after Vidrine’s successful PAT attempt. Alert defensive play gave Sacred Heart its third TD moments later when Rich Manuel scooped up a Delcambre fumble and returned it 40 yards for a score with 3:26 left in the period. Vidrine’s kick was successful. David stunned the home crowd with a 92-yard kickoff return to open the second half of play. Following a wall of blockers, he broke clear at the midfield and raced the rest of the way untouched for the score. The score was 27-0 after Vidrine’s successful kick. David scored his fourth touchdown in the fourth quarter on an eight-yard run around left end with 11:35 left in the period. The play capped a 42-yard drive in six plays. final TD was set up by a pass interception and return from midfield to the Delcambre two yardline by Billy Joe Davenport. Peter Artego scored the touchdown on a plunge off right tackle and the successful PAT put the final at 41-0. With the win Sacred Heart continues undefeated in 9-A play and Delcambre dropped to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in District.
