Delcambre stretches streak to five with win over Rebs LAFAYETTE — The Delcambre High football machine continued to ramble along undefeated by its 21-6 victory over Teurlings High in a District 9-A game here Thursday night, with a large following of Delcambre fans in attendance for the contest. The Panthers struck for touchdowns in the first, third and fourth quarters and held the Rebels to but one score late in the fourth quarter to win the contest. YARDSTICK TH First Downs ......... Middle Guard Eddie Toups set up the Panthers’ next score when he burst through the line to block a Teurlings punt at the Rebel 26 yard line. Quarterback Benny Thibodeaux passed to Don Dunbar, who had run a simple out pattern in the left flat, and the Delcambre halfback cut upfield and sprinted into the endzone from 12 yards out. LeBlanc added the PAT to make the score 14-0, Delcambre. Unable to generate a sustained drive on the ground, Teurlings went to its passing game, and it paid off once — a 40-yard touchdown pass from Quarterback Jeff Breaux to Barry Aucoin in the fourth quarter. Aucoin raced downfield on a straight fly pattern and outraced the Delcambre defenders to the endzone. The attempt for a two-point conversion failed. The Delcambre ground game did the most substantial damage to the Teurlings defense, as Panther backs rambled for 186 yards, led by Duke Landry (18 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns) and J. P. Dunbar (six carries for 38 CENTERS Bryant Chapman Paul Falgout Ricky LeBlanc Delcambre scored its final touchdown of the game when Landry broke free through the middle and raced into the endzone from 22 yards out with 1:21 left in the game. LeBlanc kicked his third PAT of the night. The win gave the Panthers a 5-0 overall record and a 2-0 record in district. Delcambre scores in 4th quarter to win DELCAMBRE — Delcambre won a District 9-A contest Thursday night, narrowly beating a fired up Plaisance High team, 6- 0, in the first district game for both teams. An interception by Duke Landry late in the fourth quarter set up the lone Delcambre touchdown; Landry latched onto a stray Indian pass at the Plaisance 30 yard line and returned it to the 25. Seven plays later Halfback Don Dunbar scored on a three-yard run, with 1:46 remaining in the game. The PAT attempt failed. Landry also was the leading rusher for the Panthers, racking up 74 yards on 12 carries, and Larry Pickney was the leading runner for Plaisance with a meager 14 yards in 12 carries. Don Dunbar’s Panthers try to stretch their win streak to 5-0 next week against Teurlings in Lafayette.
