However as staff advisor, I must acknowledge and give long deserved credit to the man who is always behind the scene. Without this man's constant co-operation, understanding, and inspiration we, the staff and I, could not hope to achieve our yearly aims and goals. Thank you,, Mr. Pershing Cashen, dear leader and co-worker for your counsel and patience during our many indecisive hours. To Catherine Landry, editor, congratulations for a most successful annual. She has on many occa- sions put aside her personal plans to carry out her responsibilities as yearbook editor. Her advice, co-operation, and efforts cannot be overstated. My sincere gratitude to a wonderful person and her staff for creating such a wonderful accomplishment. To our Advertisers, the ''backbone'' of this work, a million thanks. Without your encouragement and support, we would never have progressed throughout the years. Our annual has always existed and will continue to exist through your generosity. I, along with the whole school community, ask for your continued support. In return, we will always present an annual that, you, our parents and sponsors, can well be proud of. Thank you, everyone, for letting me play a small pan in this most rewarding undenaking. Delcambre scored its first touchdown of the season in the second quarter when senior quarterback Benny Thibodeaux pass 20 yards to split end Jeff LeBlanc for a touchdown. The PAT attempt was blocked, giving the Panthers a 6-0 advantage. A three-yard run by senior halfback Don Dunbar capped a 40- yard touchdown drive in the third quarter. Delcambre elected to run the ball for the PAT but the play failed, making the final score 12-0. Leading rusher for the Panthers was Don Dunbar, with 61 yards; Todd LeBlanc picked up 41 yards running and Murray Landry had a total of 31 yards on the ground. Delcambre had a total of 156 rushing yards, and limited the ‘B’ Yellow Jackets to 72 yards. Craig Boutte was the rushing leader for New Iberia with 45 yards. Thibodeaux was two for six passing for a total of 23 yards. New Iberia was shut out in the passing department, attempting only two passes and having both intercepted. Defensively for Delcambre, Roddy Landry was the leading tackier with nine, followed by Johnny Migues with 7; Randal Falgout and Todd LeBoanc each had a fumble recovery for Delcambre. “Our defense looked fair,” said Delcambre head coach Don Dunbar, “and our offense has a long way to go — fumbles and missed assignments.” Next Friday the Panthers take on Erath High School in Erath, in a contest set for 7:30 p.m. at Erath Stadium. M. Trahan’s Erath Bobcats 21-0. After the game, Coach Trahan said simply, “Delcambre is a good team and they played a good game.” Players on both sides had to adjust their games in order to contend with the mushy, muddy state of the field Friday night in Erath. Coach Don Dunbar’s Delcambre High School Panthers made their initial move in scoring during the third quarter. Don Dunbar Jr. took the ball over from four yards out on a pitch out. Immediately following, Todd LeBlanc made good his attempt at an extra point kick to make the score 7-0, Panthers’ favor. With the Bobcats in possession of the ball on their own 15, Delcambre intercepted a pass and brought it in for a touchdown. At this point, Duke Landry successfully faked a kicking attempt and proceeded to run the ball in for a two point conversion bringing the score to 15- 0, Delcambre still on top. The third and final TD of the evening was accomplished by Todd LeBlanc who dived over the middle from three yards out. The extra point failed but the last tallies were on the board. The score stood 21-0, Delcambre the winner. However, the game was not completely one-sided. At one point, Erath threatened with a field goal attempt at the Panther 35 but failed. The Bobcats took Panthers on the move . . . DON DUNBAR Head Coach advantage of the Panthers twice by recovering two of their fumbles. This second win of the season keeps the Delcambre record immaculate as they are coming off on a win last week over the New Iberia Senior High ’B’ Squad. Next week, the Panthers will be playing against Church Point in Delcambre. Their district 9-A competition does not begin until the 28 of September when they will host Plaisance. Erath, who stands 0-1-1 in the season thus far, will travel to Gueydan next week to take on the Bears. District 6-AA competition will not begin for the Bobcats until October 12 when they journey to Holy Rosary of Lafayette. Our dear, dear Doug - He was more than our coach - more than our teacher - he was our friend. Without his leadership and encouragement, we would have found the path towards parish, district, regional, and state runner-up champs a much more difficult road to travel. Somehow our sore mus- cles, pinched nerves, painful sprains and burning lungs didn’t seem to slow us down. We knew that he had been through all of this before, himself, so we just sucked it up” and reached out a little further and found that second wind that is always waiting just ahead for all true winners. NISHS Band and Chorus under the direction of Mr. Ken Guthrie and Mrs. Helen Hodge Governor Edwin Edwards, Sunday January 20, 1974, gave his approval to the first step in establishing bilingual markers through Acadiana. The mark- ers will be placed on six city historical sites. The Governor told a large gath- ering in New Iberia's Civic Plaza that he had come here to place his own stamp of approval” on the concept of bilingualism in Acadiana and the pres- ervation of the French heritage. Mark- ers will serve to remind both tourists and natives of the dual linguistic her- itage of the area. 75 The bilingual markers proj- ect is planned as a walking tour of the downtown area of New Iberia, leading tourists from one marker to another from ’’The Shadows to the Church of the Epiphany and back again. Six markers were presented by Mrs. Jacqueline Voorhies, chairman of the Iberia Parish CODOFIL chapter to New Ibe- ria Mayor J. Allen Daigre. They are The First Federal Building, 1903 and The Week's Grove, The Steam- boat Era. 1830-1943, The Erath Building, 1884, The Great Fire. 1899, and The First Courthouse, 1871.” The markers were designed by John Albert Landry and translated by Mrs. Voorhies, with research for each marker done under the direction of Glenn R. We have a chance to find the sunshine. Let’s keep on looking, for the light. Oh, can't you see the Morning After? It's waiting right out-side the door. Why don't we cross the bridge together. And find a place that's safe and warm. It's not too late; We should be giving. Only with love - can we climb. It's not too late, not while we're living. Let, put our hands out in time. There’s got to be a Morning After, We're moving closer to the door. I know we'll be there by tomorrow, And we'll escape the darkness, We won't be searching anymore. There's got to be a Morning After. There's got to be a Morning After. In order to judge of the inside of others, study your own; for men in general are very much alike, and though one has one prevailing passion, and another has another, yet their operations are much the same; and whatever engages or disgusts, pleases, or offends you in others will engage, dis- gust, please or offend others in you. The Panthers totaled 119 points, followed by Plaisance with 69, Teurlings with 384, Vermilion Catholic with 35, Fatima with 20, Loreauville with 194, Hanson with 1612 St. Joseph with 15, and E. Broussard with 54. Daniel Ronsonet of Delcambre was named the “Outstanding Field Man” of the meet and Don Dunbar of Delcambre and Terry Joubert of Plaisance were named co-winners of the “Outstanding Track Man” title. Randal Falgout of Delcambre won first place in the javelin with a throw of 173-7, and Ronsonet took first in the long and triple jumps with respective leaps of 10-10 and 42-1. Kirk Laviolette of Delcambre won the high jump with a leap of 5- 10 while Boyd Mouret of St. Joseph won the discus with a throw of 132- 44 and V.C.'s Danny Broussard won the shot with a heave of 47 . Plaisance captured first in the 440 relay with a clocking of 46.8. The Panthers’ Roddy Landry and Stuart Broussard won first places in the 440-yd. dash and the 180 low hurdles, respectively, with times of 52.7 and 21.9. Broussard has been a standout on NSlTs specialty teams all season He's also come off the bench throughout the season to become the Demons' most dependable reserve running back NSU’s regular fullback. Sidnev Thornton, left the game with a badly twisted ankle during the first half against SLl’ am! Broussard was pressed into action for the remainder of the game “His second effort was great.” remarked NSU Offensive Backfield Coach Johnnie Emmons about Broussard's running On two of his best runs he was hit at the line of scrimmage, but he was able to continue on downfield for 15 or more yards Emmons explained that Broussard had been patient during the past two years about waiting his turn Broussard has played behind a pair of outstanding fullbacks, including Mike Harter fwho is now a star tight end) and Thornton, who has gained over 130 yards in a game twice this season “Carol has a great attitude about football.” said Emmons He loves to ring somebody's bell I'd say he's one of our best defenders on kickoff returns and probably our best defender on punt returns,” Broussard admits that he enjoys flattening a kick returner. “It's great.” Broussard said about playing on specialty teams “You can really wipe 'em out if you for NSU hit'em rieht ” One of the most versatile plaverson the team.
