Bottom Row: I. to r., R. Lynyak, F. McGuire, T. Stearns, K. Cote, G. Martin, F. Walsh. Top Row: I. to r., Dennis Russell, R. Findlay, D. Cacchio, G. Roll, J. Farrell, Darryl Russell. Absent: N. Marlnaro. Darn Those llnjuries! The 1960 Delbarton basketball team enjoyed a win- ning season. Despite being plagued by frequent key injuries, the cagers compiled an 11-9 record. The squad was captained by Senior guard Dan Cacchio, a top-notch leader and rugged competitor. His value to the team could be seen in their per- formance during the second half of the schedule when he was sidelined by a broken ankle. Dan had a very capable backcourt companion in deadeye junior Bob Findlay. Fink carried the brunt of the attack, and although injuries sidelined him for Eve games, he wound up as the team's high scorer. Bob averaged over sixteen points a game. Senior center Dennis Russell did yeoman service under the boards and was the squad's second high scorer. The two forward positions were-held down by juniors George Roif and Darryl Russell. George was a consistent scorer and could be counted upon to hit-in 88 double figures every game. Darryl was an important man, with his reliable rebounding and defensive play. A strong bench was a necessity this season, as injuries often prompted Coach Stilwell to go to his reserves to fill the gap. Two boys in particular deserve mention for their efforts, Senior Bob Lynyak and Sophomore Nick Marinaro. Both played well and were exciting to watch, Nick with his long arching two-handed set, and hustling Bob with his inspired play. Seniors Frank Walsh, George Martin, and Ted Stearns didn't get the call often, but when they did they responded with line performances. Frank specialized in rebounds, George in hook shots, Ted in fast-breaks. juniors Frank McGuire, Ken Cote, and jim Farrell, a real comer, all contributed their share to the winning campaign. Even though it was not an overwhelmingly success- ful season, there was a lot of spirit. We had a lighting team, a dedicated coach, and an avid following.
