Legend of the School Ring The Senior Class of 1960 has had a new school ring designed. The new ring is of gold with a deep green stone and has many symbolic meanings capturing the spirit of Delbarton. On the one side is the school coat of arms and the year of graduation. In the center of the seal stands the Benedictine Cross, surroun-ded by two rampant lions and two quarter moons. Under the seal are the Latin words SUCCISA VIRESCIT, which, translated, means Cut down, it grows up again. It is also the motto of the famed Abbey of Monte Cassino. This phrase, chosen for Delbarton, teaches our students the value of perseverance. In the top is placed a dark green stone, depicting the setting in which Delbarton is located. Our school is situated in the emerald hills of historic Morristown. The name of the school and its date of founding are surrounded by the Benedictine Cross. This latter represents the religious order of teachers at Delbarton . . . the monks of St. Benedict. On the other side is carved an arch. The arch has always had a special meaning. It is at the entrance to the Main Build- ing and a new, more modern arch, guards the entrance to Trinity Hall. Both sides have clusters of oak and laurel leaves. The oak is the symbol of strength, both of mind and of body,-while the laurel is the symbol ol victory,-victory over evil and ignorance.
