As Student Council President I have had countless opportuni- ties to see unity manifest itself at Delaware Valley. Our Student Council has its basis in unity and cooperation. Students of five sending districts, we are united the first day that we enter Delaware Valley. Surrounded by many strange faces, each of us feels a need to find someone with whom we can begin to share our experiences. Soon we find that almost everyone has the same feeling, and we find ourselves united in friendship. Freshmen soon begin to unite as a class. They begin to real- ize that by staying together and thinking and acting in unity. they can stand united in the face of the upperclassman sway. Each individual class has its own establishment: the Sopho- more Sophistication, derived from the realization of not being Freshmen anymoreg the Junior Initiative, designed to show the school that Juniors are better than Seniors: and of course, there is Senior Superiority. These phases of unity assume proper perspective when compared to the true uniting force-school spirit and pride. School pride has its basis in the individual who is engaged in individual excellence. Pride inbeing able to help one another display the best we've got helps to develop team spirit-the spirit of unity. Everyone becomes a part of this team unit: either his individual nature will demand it, or his teammates will. The unity of an athletic team or any other group of individu- als who represent the school is soon recognized and appreciat- ed by the student body. This appreciation evolves into an esprit de corps which serves to unite students more than any one in- dividual or organization can unite any particular segment. This unity of pride and spirit does not confine itself to compe- tition' with other schools. We begin to take pride in the type of education we receive and the things that we can accomplish because of it. The bonds of unity experienced in high school serve not only to foster our education, but they establish a spirit for our lives, 4 endship Unity through friendship and international under- standing is exemplified by Dan Fitzpatrick and our for- eign exchange student from Norway, Terje Hoven. A union formed by the bonds of communication and good will is hard to destroy, and even harder to forget, ' v VALLEY ELAWAHE r, E5l:JNAL HIGH Sc H gm BOX 34 , . .,15V,1', From mony points, on wheels Transportation brings a unity, too. The use of school bus transportation enables the students from various parts ofthe school district to become better ac- quainted through their personal contact with other students on the bus. It also gives them a better opportunity to en- gage in various school activities. The school bus also encourages attendance to sports to promote school spirit. Buses give all an experience with others in per- sonal conversation and good friendship. . Y,...,.. 7 From early confusion, to o groducil order Early morning at D. V. Fi. is a state of mass confu- sion. lVlrs. Gilbert's office is usually swamped with the return of absentees requesting attendance Cards. Then with the sound of the first bell, the halls once again become alive vvith eager students striving to complete the day. When the final bell rings, half of D. V. R.'s stu- dent body leaves, while the remainder stay to partici- pate in sports, clubs, and various other activities. 8 The most important part of school is study. A quiet library and cafeteria set the scene. Forty-two minutes go by and it's off to the next class, The Seniors spend their class time getting Senior portraits taken, and finally the clock says 3 o'clock, Now after school activi- ties begin, and the Juniors busy themselves making decorations for their class dance.
