Af- ter serving the college for the past 47 years, the last 12 as president, Dr. Feld- stein had decided to hang up the cleats and enjoy a well deserved retirement. I view this as a new beginning for my- self and for the College, said Dr. Feld- stein. For me, it will be a challenge. The college has been my life and 1 in- tend to stay closely associated with it. Joshua Feldstein immigrated to the United States from Lithuania in 1939 and enrolled in the National Farm School where he graduated with a di- ploma in Horticulture in 1942. He re- ceived his Bachelor of Science degree from the National Agricultural College in 1952. Following graduation, he joined the instructional staff at the Farm School as an assistant instructor and did post graduate work in agricultural machin- ery. Dr. Feldstein attended Rutgers University where he received his Mas- ters degree in Horticulture in 1956 and his Ph.D in Horticulture in 1962. He became Professor of Horticulture at Delaware Valley in 1965 and chaired the Horticulture Department from 1959 to 1969. He was named Chairman of the Plant Science Department in 1966. In 1969, he was appointed Associate Dean of Delaware Valley College, be- coming Dean in 1973. Dr. Feldstein was elected President of the college by the Board of Trustees and assumed office on July 15, 1975. Among the notable accomplish- ments of Dr. Feldstein ' s 12 years as president is the addition of two new academic majors: Agribusiness in 1983 and Computer Information Systems Management in 1984. An extensive ef- fort to renovate existing buildings and add new structures was also undertak- en. The James Work Memorial Stadium was completed in the fall of 1978. Later years saw the construction of the Agri- cultural Machinery Complex, dedica- tion of the Center for Animal Husband- ry (1980), the addition to the Greenhouse Laboratory, which in- cludes landscape design room, floricul- ture laboratory and faculty offices (1983), and the opening of the Sydney j. Markovitz Equine Facility (1984). In his retirement, Dr. Feldstein will remain an integral part of the Delaware Valley College faculty and family. Thank you for your leadership and friendship and health and happiness in your retirement. Dedication 8 IN MEMORY OF DR. PETER CLICK, JR. 1922-1986 K T Perter Click, jr. Received his Bache- lor of Arts degree from Princeton Uni- versity in 1945, his Bachelor of Science from Trenton State College in 1948 and his Master of Education and Doctor of Education from Rutgers University in 1949 and 1962 respectively. He joined the Faculty of our College in 1948 and continued to serve with distinction and outstanding dedication until his un- timely death in September, 1986. Dr. Click had a varied and fulfilling career. He was proud of his heritage, our Col- lege and our country. He served as a Marine Corps Officer during World War II and part of the Korean War with combat duty on Okinawa and Civil Af- fairs duty in North China and as a Tac- tics Officer at Camp Pendelton, Califor- nia. . He served as Captain of Margate City Beach Patrol in New Jersey from 1948-1968. At our College, Dr. Click served as Assistant Professor of Political Science, Associate Professor of General Studies and as Professor of Liberal Arts. He was the Chairman of the Division of liberal Arts from 1980 until his demise. . . Dr. Click was very interested and excep- tionally active in College affairs. He served in many capacities: Director of Graduate Placement, Director of Ath- letics, Recruiter for the Office of Ad- missions, Football Coach, Faculty Advi- sor to the Student Government, Chairman and Member of numerous Faculty Committees and Chairman of the College ' s Middle States Evaluation Coordinating Committee in 1962. Dr. Click has published several books and numerous articles in various news- papers and magazines. He wrote a col- umn on a weekly basis in the Intelligencer. Dr. Peter Click, Jr. was an outstand- ing teacher. He taught Political Sci- ence, American History, Foreign Affairs and Speech at our College. His lectures were highly organized, informative and presented in an enthusiastic manner. He continually challenged his students and colleagues to do their very best. He enjoyed athletics and the fine arts. He was happily married for more than 30 years to his beautiful wife, Mary Lou, who preceded him in death. Dr. Click, who was my personal friend, was always ready to help the College and the stu- dents. His broad and sincere smile and firm handshake were his trademarks. In good times and in difficult times he would come forth with concrete sug- gestions and with moderate views. He was a peacemaker and a problem solver. His name will be perpetuated at the College by his many accomplishments and through the Dr. and Mrs. Peter Click, jr. Scholarship Fund which they established in 1982 and to which Dr. Click willed a substantial sum of monies. I and many others will miss his coun- sel, support and friendship. Dr. Peter Click, jr. will always be remembered by all who were privileged to know him. Joshua Feldstein Willetta K. Dfspite the disappointing team re- cord, there were a number of fine indi- vidual performances during the season. Running back Jim Wilson, linebacker Vince Bedesem and defensive back Steve Clark were all honored by both the MAC and the ECAC as Players of the Week for three different games. With a solid nucleus of players re- turning and a fine crop of freshman re- cruits coming in, DVC football will be looking to get back on top in 1987. Football 49 Soccer . . . . . With the loss of only two seniors, Dan Rothenheber and Doug Rumberger, we have an excellent nu- cleus to start the 1987 season. There were times during the season that we played very good to excellent basic fundamental soccer and it was re- flected in the scores of those games. However, due to our inconsistency, we suffered some losses at the feet of teams that were not of our caliber. Our overall season record of 2-16-1 is not really a true picture of the team ' s play. We just could not finish goal at- tempts off. We lost nine games by two goals of less. We are looking forward to a much improved season in 1987. (Standing) Coach Barry Fox, Sue Stolzer, Michelle Morgan, Debbie Stockhouse, Trish Dollarton, Donna Bradley, Pam Frey. Volleyball 56 The 1986 Volleyball season ended with a dissappointing record of 7 wins and 10 losses, however, their M.A.C. record was 3-2 placing them third in their division. The performance of the team was very up and down. The way everyone played was different from game to game with no consistency. This resulted in the team losing several games that should and could have been won. A possible reason for the team ' s lack of consistency may have been a result from the fact that the team could not participate in two tournaments that Del Val had been a part of in previous years. Not playing in these tournaments gave the volleyball team fewer games to play in the early part of the season, possibly a lack of cohesion between the players. The volleyball team was led by Captain Vicki Keener, who has been a consistent and steady setter for the 4 years that she played. She was also awarded M.V.P. at the end of the 1986 volleyball season. Making up the rest of the starting team in 1986 was juniors Sharon Chapman (Sharon was nominat- ed to the all conference M.A.C. team) and Connie Hajioannou. They were the two outside hitters and blockers and an overall fine performance. Sophomore Trish Doilarton and freshman Donna Bradley were the two excellent power house middle hitters and blockers that were always on the ball. Deb, Demaris, Lori, Chris, Michelle, Sue and Pam were all very important and played a neces- sary part in the success of the volleyball team. The 1986 team is looking forward to improving on this years record by blending new players with experienced ones. Digging For More!! The biggest wins of the season were the Aggies exciting win over Kings College and the victory over Scranton in front of their 3,000 screaming fans. The coaching staff at D.V.C. feels that we have made great strides toward our ultimate goals - M.A.C. Championship and M.A.C. play-offs. Darcell was a very coachable young lady and she was a real pleassure to coach for three years. Darcell has played exceptionally well since she came to D.V.C. in her sophomore year, expecially since she had to concentrate on two or three different positions. Some of Dar- cell ' s accomplishments are: she is the second leading scorer in the school ' s history with 828 points - and in only three years of playing at D.V.C. She was the 1984-85 M.V.P., received the 1985-86 Coaches Award, the 1986-87 Division Player of the Week for the week of February 9th, also Eastern College Ath- letic Conference Player of the Week for February 14th; and last but not least, was picked to the All Middle Atlantic Conference Team, and Ram Pages Player of the Week. Also D.V.C. would like to congradulate Darcell on receiving the Most Prestigious Awards; Third Team All-American and Northeast Region, All- Region Team. It has been a great pleasure having Darcell play for D.V.C. and she has to be one of the most outstanding players to come through the Delaware Valley College Basketball Program. Her shoes will be hard to fill, and I wish Darcell all the best in her future endeavors. Veterans captains Jim Flukey (javalin); Steve Caffey (sprints and jumps); David Keich (sprints and jumps); David Spotts (distance) provided excellent leader- ship for the younger squad members. Highlights of the season were the NCAA qualifying of Jim Flukey in the Javalin (60.46 meters) and the outstand- ing sprinting of Freshman Marc Rea- sons 200 and 400 and relays. The MAC points scored was less than anticipated, due to the rash of big inju- ries before and during the MAC ' s. The outlook for trach and field is very bright for the green and gold. Though an overa. record of 8-6, seems a little bleak, the Aggies went on a tare the last weei and a half of the season, winning 6 of 6 games, all of which were leagU ' games, giving them a league record of 7-1, and sole possession of first place The turning point was the double header with Scranton. Everybody jus really pulled together and played up to their potential. Behind Tamm Petraski ' s pitching, Vicki Keener and company, began feilding some incred ibie plays, saving a host of runs. Also the bats, once again, begai functioning. We struggled at many different points in the season, having to contem with a very rainy spring, as well as a team that was very young, but in the en( we could put all that aside and pull together for that common end, th ' league Championship. Though losing a key infielder, in Vicki Keener (the only Senior on th team), the Aggies are looking for an ever better 1988. We will have most c the players returning, knowing what it feels like to be on a winning tearr Hopefully the desire will be strong to get back to the MAC playoffs and wii the whole thing next year. We have the potential, we just need to want !■win sooner, and be willing to put the work in to accomplish that goal. They started out a little slow, but after the first game jitters and a lot of hard work, the team found themselves pushing even last year ' s MAC champions to the limite. A very small, nonexistent bench pushed each player into being physi- cally fit and able to play a minimum of 70 minutes of continuous hockey; with 90 minutes being acquired on four occasions. They did many positive things, im- proved tremendously as a team and as individuals, and raised the hopes for next year ' s season. The loss of two se- niors, Tina Drey and Bonnie Davids, will be deeply felt, but hopes for a solid group of freshmen and support from those on campus, has many ready to begin the 1987 season. Block and Bridle was the first place float and Dairy Club and Biology Club took 2nd and 3rd places. It was a wet parade but we all managed to have a great time anyway. Our homecoming queen judges had a tough time making their decisions this year- They had so many great can- didates to choose from.
