Once again, Bruno gave his special touch and spirit to the pep rally crowd. The highpoint of the evening was when Gwen Stauffer of the Landscaping Club was crowned the 1981 Homecoming Queen. A late Friday night of float and spirit car building ended with many tired people waiting for the parade. Saturday morning found the streets of town lined with many people to see the parade lead by Grand Mar- shall Marc Howard of Channel 6, Ac- tion News. At the game, he re- crowned Gwen as Homecoming Queen. Block and Bridle won the float competition and Elson Hall won the dorm decorating contest. 13 Homecoming D.V.C. Struck By Halloween Fever Once again, DVC was struck by Halloween fever. The campus buzzed with Pre-Halloween activities and decorations. Then the moment the students had waited for, the Hallow- een dance, began with students dressed in costume. As always, Hal- loween provided to be one of the high points of the fall. 15 Halloween DVC Travelers Compete In IM Football DVC offers many sides to campus life. There is books, studys, and ac- tivities such as dances, movies, con- certs and special events. The greatest experience for the campus person is the dorm life which provides a home, friends to hang around with, and many events to make college life in- teresting and rememberable. These statements are heard by the small number of members which compose the Cornucopia staff. The staff has the impossible task to cover the whole year of events at DVC and condense them to form a yearbook. The Cornucopia staff is composed of students who take pictures, write and type copy, layout pages, draw artwork and handle the business area. The Cornucopia always needs students to make the book represent more of the college population. u ' ?• % rT. JACKSON IV April 3, 1960-October 26, 1979 Samuel M. Jackson IV Upon First encounter, his spark- ling eyes capture attention. Set wide, they reflect strength; soft blue, they threaten no violence. In time, consid- eration and sensitivity intertwined with kindness flow through each gaze. When he talks through his small, well-formed mouth, his dark brows twitch with expression. Broad jaw and high cheek bones contribute as assets to his sharp, smiling sense of humor. His thick, dark, shining hair exemplifies his good health and cleanliness. A strong stance and pow- erful shoulders make the most of his small stature. They, along with a de- liberate stride, alert even strangers to his athletic abilities. Yet his stride contains no strut of conceit. The at- mosphere his being radiates is filled with confidence and determination to grow to his fullest potential while encouraging others, too. Morning Has Broken Morning has broken like the first morning. Black bird has spoken like the first bird. Praise for the singing. Praise for the morning, Praise for them springing fresh from the world. Sweet the rain ' s new fall, sunlit from heaven. Like the first dew fall on the first grass. Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden, Sprung in completeness where his feet pass. Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning, Born of the one light Eden saw play. Praise with elation, praise ev ' ry morning, God ' s recreation of the new day. - CARBREY JUDITH 153 Weber Rd. As graduates of a fine American college, you are an important part of our na- tion ' s hope for the future. You are here today because of your own effort and because your families and teachers had faith in your abili- ties. They made sacrifices to help you achieve this goal and you worked diligently to justify the opportunity which has been afforeded you. But your work is not ended. As you move forward in new directions, you will work to fulfill the hopes and expecta- tions which have been invested in you. In so doing, you will renew the great faith which our nation has tra- ditionally placed on the value of edu- cation. Scholarship has prepared you, in mind and in spirit, to function at a higher and more complex level. Now it is your responsibility to play your part and to enhance the history of mankind ' s accomplishments. I join all those saluting you, your parents and your teachers. May you continue to hold their admiration and to earn their pride. May you al- ways dare to dream and may you find the means to make your dreams come true. Congratulations.
