The required courses give srudenrs a solid bockground in imporronr scienrific principles, bur emphasis is also ploced on procricol opplicorion, on aspect that is often negleaed in other educotionol institutions. One of rhe outstonding educotionol aspects of the curricu- lum is rhe Dairy Husbandry Techniques II course, in which the srudenrs ore responsible for the total management of one of rhe dairy borns. In this course, students also hove o project in which they lease o cow on paper, and ore responsible for determining feed ration, recording milk production, ond declar- ing profir or the end of rhe project. To add to their educotionol experience, seniors moy elect to carry our o speciol research project. A project corried out in the 1979-80 ocodemic year involved the induction of loctorion through the use of hormones. After their four years or DVC, dairy majors hove done well or finding jobs in their field. A large number of groduores find work on dairy forms as herdsmen, while others become in- volved in rhe extension service and research. Kighr — Dr James Horner 1 DAILEf . The 1979 Aggie booters earned them- selves quite a bit of respect and won ' t be token too lightly in the future. Amidst the joy of the teom ' s coming of age , tragedy also struck o severe blow of adversity. Two players on the squad were tragically killed with two remaining gomes on the sched- ule to be played. In honor of their teammates, our squad conquered the lost two opponents in close, fiercely-fought contests. Our team just would not be denied those victories. Heod mentor Joe Soder was quite pleased with his squad ' s overall performance and attributes their success to o better conditioning program that enabled the team to ploy hard for th e entire 60-minute gomes. Coach Soder felt that with o few more breate, the young teom (mostly sophomores) could hove posted o winning record. DVC foorboll has been, for rhe pasr few years, rhe center of consronr joking whor wirh its winless seosons and enriborrossing losses. One person rhor wosn ' r laughing was Coach A! Wilson. For rhe first time in six years the Aggies enjoyed o winning season and they compiled the most wins (five) for a Del-Vol team in o single seoson since 1968. Our gridders won three league gomes, the first league wins ever experienced by Coach Wilson in his four years at the helm. The DVC gridders did lose four gomes, but oil of the contests were close ond could very possible hove emerged Aggie victories with some smoll breol- here or rhere. The defense was a large contributing factor to the squad ' s overall success. This unit, on countless occasions, caused key turnovers thot eventuolly pro- duced points on the scoreboard for DVC. The offense, olthough o bit sluggish at times, could be very explosive - big ploys were not uncommon throughout the seoson. And senior Dill Mullen brought further reknown to not only the offensive unit, but the whole team via his selection to the MAC First Team ot running bock. Yes, DVC con now, finally, take pride in it ' s football team - a maturity ond respect has been instilled into the progrom that has been obsent in the recent post. Losr yeor ' s squad, probably rhe besr DVC has ever produced, prompted severol larger schools ro schedule rhe Aggies. Thus, rhis yeor Coach Marshall hod ro develop o ream rhor would face rhe roughest schedule in rhe history of the school. The fact thot the 1979-80 seoson was to be a rebuilding year due to severe loss through graduation, meeting oil those larger schools seemed like o mammoth task. However, rhe team, which started five freshmen, morured quickly and achieved a very respectable 10-10 overall record ond ploced third or the league tournament. Nor bod for a rebuilding yeor! Juniors Worren Robertson, Jeff Dorrholomew and Paul Peor- son helped instill some valuable confidence into their younger teommotes. Warren finished the season with o 17-3 mark and Jeff was on impressive 16-1-1 record. Dorh quolified for All- Americon status to accompony their MAC championships. Jeff wos also awarded the team ' s MVP oword. So, even though their final record may not reolly seem ro be indicarive of o DVC wrestling ream, rhe actual strength ond tolent of the squad can ' t be measured by record alone. By rhe woy. Their influence on our community is not dictated by the simple immensity of a sprawling campus and thousands of students, a physical dilem- ma which many communities wrestle with unhappily, but is due to a fineness and soundness of spirit and function. Delaware Valley College, by being excellent, has earned its position as a leader among us. We are proud to have you here, and we look to your continuing leadership and influence in the decade before us. m DOYLESTOWN FEDERAL SAVINGS AND LOAN ASSOCIATION it™ Do ' i i.i ' .srow •(;iu)ssKKYS •i:)riiLiN 286 msms (3]G05 OF WlIL(g® n® iriai gg®(gnA¥n®M HENRY A.
