Swackhamer ' Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture Doylestown, Pennsylvania foreword Welcome to Delaware Valley College. We, the Class of 1962, extend our invitation to you to join us as we tour the campus in space and in time. Reminisce with us as we relive our four years at D.V.C. — the formative years. It has been with- in this period that our outlook has been ex- panded to meet the challenges of our complex way of life. It is within this period, too, that Dela- ware Valley College has expanded to keep abreast of the needs of these changing times. The groundwork has been laid for an increment of D.V.C. ' s role in intellectual circles. We have been fortunate to have seen some of this ex- pansion take place during our stay here. Even greater growth lies in the immediate future. It has been our good fortune to have lived and grown with these exciting days of flux and change at Delaware Valley College. ZkeMwa Mater ft: Ijil ' ' 4 V ' 1 ? These achieve- ments may best be stated by quoting from the recent Middle State evaluation report: The extent to which a college fulfills its ob- jectives can best be measured by the success of its graduates in graduate schools and by their performance in professions and business. In both of these regards, Delaware Valley College scores a plus. I wish ycu a long life of peace and happiness. Sincerely, Ak O ? George E. Turner ' Dean of Students Donald AA. Crisp blocking breaks the runner loose for an- other sizeable gain. sixty-five Interested spectators of the foot- ball team ' s practice are Dean Meyer, William Wilson, Phil Chapman and Mac McGuigan with Ronnie Stein taking a short breather. Delaware Valley compiled an impressive 6-2 log for the 1961 football season. Congratulations to the team for a job well done. Senior end Wheeler Aman looks for a short button hook pass from his quarterback. £ r Keeping the idea of practice makes perfect, the Aggies participate in a mid-week scrimmage to get ready for the big one on Saturday. TEAM RECORD 1961 Opp. Aggies Montclair State Gallaudet 40 6 13 27 Lycoming Kutztown State 6 6 7 12 Grove City Susquehanna Kings Cheyney 30 12 6 16 27 sixty -six AGGIES 27 GALLAUDET 6 About 4,000 spectators turned out for the Gallaudet-Delaware Valley football game on Alumni Field. The Aggies scored all 27 points in the first half. In the first quarter Bobby (Carrot- top) Frantz took the ball over from the two yard line. This score capped a 57 yard drive. On the return kick- off Harold Nightwine recovered Gal- laudet ' s fumble on the 27 yard line. Minutes later, Frantz threw a 12 yard touchdown pass. To finish the quar- ter Frantz scored again from the two. Just before the half ended Tommy Moore threw a 53 yard pass to Jerry Gall for another 6 points. Out of four attempts Hal Nightwine made 3 con- versions. Enjoying the practice session are the Bruce Schleiweis. anagers Sal Santangelo, John Jennings, Martin Gilman, and Quarterback Bob Frantz sets himself up to hit his receiver down field. Dick Baughn, freshman fullback, drives hard for those extra few yards. sixty-seven Harold Nightwine puts his placement through the uprights. 9 6 2 Senior halfback Tony Steiert assumes the proper defensive position. Talking things over in the huddle are Tony Steiert, Bob Frantz, Dan Leaty, and Wheeler Aman, with coach Chiodi. AGGIES 7-LYCOMING 6 The Aggies squeaked out a close one when they defeated Lycoming College on a conversion by Hal Nightwine. The Aggies ' touchdown came in the closing minutes of the second period when Jerry Gall took a pass from Tommy Moore on the Lycoming 25 yard line and bombed the rest of the way for the T. D. The play covered 63 yards. Lycoming scored e arly in the third period when they recovered a fumble on the Aggie 13 yard line. Minutes later they scored from one yard out. AGGIES 12-KUTZTOWN 6 The Aggies scored touchdowns in the first and last periods to defeat Kutztown by a 12-6 margin on a rain-covered field. The Aggies grabbed the lead after the opening kick-off and marched 75 yards to a touchdown as Dan Leaty went over from the 2. Kutztown then moved from their own 35 to the Aggies 14 yard line. One play later Kutztown scored. In the fourth period D.V.C. took the ball on the Kutztown 49 and drove to the winning score. sixty-eight V e An aggressive Aggie line stymies the opponents once again. A 17-yard pass, from Tommy Moore to Jerry Gall, was the clincher. An attempt for two points on a center plunge failed. AGGIES 6-GROVE CITY Senior Quarterback Bob Frantz led Delaware Valley to a 6-0 victory over Grove City. It was Frantz ' s arm that spelled the difference in the hard fought game. He connected on 12 of 23 aerials, most of them to Jerome Gall. Frantz tallied the lone touchdown in the third period on a one-yard sneak, climaxing a 74-yard drive that came after the second half kickoff. In the fourth period, Grove City stopped Delaware Valley on the one and then using straight power plays, drove to Delaware Valley ' s 16. There the defense stiffened and Grove City lost the ball on downs. The Aggies piled up 5 wins in a row as underdogs, in the latter part of the season to boast a 5-3 record. Coach Ned Linta is looking for an even better record this year. He will be depending on seniors Al Hanser in the broad jump; Ron Cole and Arnie Radi in the distances and co-captain William Wilson in the low hurdles and 100 yard and 220 yard dashes, to do a large portion of the chore. The Delaware Valley College Golf team enjoyed an un- defeated season in its inaugural year; under-stroking teams such as Glassboro State, who had not lost a match in three seasons of play. This year we can look for and expect another successful season under the able guidance of Coach Wally Paul. Great expectations are expected from Senior co-captains Glenn Caldaro and Herb Johns with help from seniors Frank Penrose, John Bulette, and Ed Stein. eighty-two Team ' s Seniors (L-R) F. Penrose, E. From 1958 to 1962 we, the class of ' 62, had seen four new varsity sports inaugurated, track, tennis, cross-country and golf. Now a fifth has been added, wrestling. Although the team is composed wholly of freshman and sophomores, it shows great potential. Coach John Maskus is looking forward to a bright fu- ture; so are we. However, individually, the team instilled terror into rivals by displaying courage, skill, endurance and a never say die attitude. This year we are all looking for a more experienced team with the same innate qualities of last year. Mr. Brown, with the assistance of his four seniors: Steve Rudolph, Tony Steiert, Wheeler Aman and Bill Wilson, is looking for a better than average season. 1962 SCHEDULE Apri 4 Apri 10 Apri 13 Apri 14 Apri 16 Apri 25 Apri 30 May 10 May 11 May 15 Pa. JAMES WORK On the Second Day of July, Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-Two, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools accepted the Delaware Valley Col- lege of Science and Agriculture for accreditation and membership in the Associa- tion. This marks a significant milestone in the history of this relatively young college, which earned that title in 1948. The College has the unique distinction of being the Nation ' s only privately supported college of agriculture and is the only institution of higher learning in Bucks County. In the words of President James Work, This recognition by its sister institutions of higher education in the Middle States Region is the beginning of a new era of even greater contributions to the educational life of the Delaware Valley. twelve DALLAS, TEXAS l %: t •£ £ ; «ft • DELAWARE VALLEY COLLEGE £ OF SCIENCE a AGRICULTURE i Bf - .
