. . . a long, lonely road EDI T OR'S MESSAGE It's a long, hard, frustrating, and often terribly lonesome road that leads to a yearbook. For this yearbook-the 1965 STATESMAN-the road has been especially rough because there was no well-worn track from previous years to follow. A We have omitted, we know, many who deserve to be here represented. Part of this is attributed to inexperience, part to our photographer's failure to meet deadlines, part to your failure to take us seriously, but much of the blame must rest on our shoulders. Still, the road had not been taken' before, and we ask your tolerance in accepting the 1965 STATESMAN as a job not well done, perhaps, but done. NATHAN HOUGH

DEDICA T I ON Y Mr. Price with his family As we dust off the memories of our college days we can visualize vividly the experiences which made college the most significant segment of our lives--the romantic aloofness of a couple at a spring prom, the wild exuberance of the Home- coming game, symbolize only the superficial values of the college experience. lt is the cultivation of the mind which proves to be the most valuable end product of our education. There is no more noticeable difference than that between the knowing and the unknowing individual. The transition from adolescence to adulthood can be largely attributed to the dedicated efforts of our good teachers, because of them A familiar game sight. we can count ourselves with the knowing. A good teacher is as much a product of our time as the atom bomb, rockets to the moon, Lenny Bruce, James Baldwin, CORE, Tennessee Williams, Miles Davis, James Dean, and hootenanies.
