SEPTEMBER 53- ’54 (calendar Sept. 8: The door of DHS opened to many new facet ond all u of' faithful . Going to work for straight A'» this year. Sept. Ill Got off to a busy itart by nominating clot officer today. Sept. 18: Elected claw officer for the coming year. In a very lively assembly the ttudent body chose our cheerleoder . The Comot begon the football season victoriauily—Walworth felled by a tcore of 27-6. Sept. 25: Burlington defeated by the Comet . The core wa 27-6. The fre hmen and tophomoret demonitroted the ort of cheering at the annual cheering contett sponsored by the eighth grade. Sst-boom-ahhhh! OCTOBER Oct. 2. The Comet played at Wilmot to the tune of an 18-0 victory. Oct. 3: My, what a stunning patch you are wearing! The occasion is the novel Potch Dance with the Junior Girls' Guidonce Clos in charge. Original patch prize went to Gay Honse and Donna Schiller. Oct. 9: Homecoming with Eost Troy. Parade in the afternoon with the sophomore winning the fir»t prize in the be»t float conte»t. A spirited football game—the Comets won by a tcore of 33-d. Oct. 10: Homecoming Danco. A hoppy group sow Ron Smith ond Janice Kroll reign as Homecoming King ond Queen. Janice's court included Eidola Parsons. Eleonor Sanchez. Kathleen Morritty, ond Patricia Freund. Oct. 16: We conquered Elkhorn, 13-0 Oct. 23: The Lake Geneva gome. And with that rainy evening come our first defeat. The score was 19-2. Oct. 30: Woodwind sections of the bond ottended a clinic in Elkhorn. Played Mukwonogo today. Victory wo theirs with the score. 20-14. NOVEMBER Nov. 4: Whitewater vs. Delavan. Lott our last football gome by a score of 27-6. The coach ond team deserve thonkt for such commendable playing. We're proud fo be from DHS. Another kind of lo»s for some of us Delovanites. Report card doy. Did you get o pair of A's? Must study harder next quortor. Nov. 5, 6: Teachers' Convention—Vocation of lost! Nov. lit Armistice Day program in the newly decoratod auditorium. Nov. 13: Sadie Howkins Dance sponsored by the juniors. We oil donned our Daisy Mae ond li'l Abner costumot. Barb Anderson ond Dave Sincere took first honors; Little Girl Sandra Mohns and Little Boy Bill Reeb were judged the best dressed couple. Nov. 20: Our basketball five beat Salem Central 88-52 in the first game of tho season. Nov. 24: Scored another bosketboll victory—over Burlington, 70-44. Nov. 26, 27: Wheel Thanksgiving vacation. Can't wait to nibble on that turkey drumstick. DECEMBER Dec. 2: All the world's a stage . . Had our one-act play contest. The student body enjoyed The Monkey's Paw , I'm a Fool , and The Hoppy Journey . Dec. 4. The Comet scored a 74-34 victory over Wilmot. Dec. 8: We beat the State School, 64-38. Dec. 10: Senior Guidonce night at Loke Genova. Dec. 11: An exciting game with Eost Troy—Ron Smith set o scoring record, 44 points. Dec. 15: Choir's annual Christmas Concert. Under Mrs. James Crummey's direction o pleasant evening of religious and secular Christmas songs was enjoyed. Dec. 18: The Band thrilled us with their Christmas Concert. We beat Elkhorn with the now famous DHS stall. In Santa’s honor no school until Jon. 4, 1954. Happy Christmas. Dec. 31: New Year's Eve. Enough said. JANUARY Jon. 4: Back to the three R's again. How quickly tho days flew by. Jan. 8: Color Doy hod u oil weoring gold ond blue, happy to be from DHS even though the evening saw us lose a bosketboll game to Lake Genevo. The score was 83-65. Jan. 9: Still celebrating the holiday season with a sophomore sponsored Christmos Dance—belated, but loads of fun. Jon. 15: The Comet beat Mukwonogo. 56-50. Jan. 18-19: Exams. If I’d only poid more attention in class . . . Jan. 22: Report cards. And I studied, too. Jan. 23: March of Dimes program. Eddie Suma won tho Talent Contest. Jan. 26: Our boy were victors over Burlington by a scoro of 44-41. Jon. 29. Keep it up Comets. Wilmot downed, 59-55. FEBRUARY Feb. 1: Massed Band Concert of Wilmot. Impressive sight as well as fine music. Feb. 3: Say cheese, look ot the comcra. Annual pictures token. Feb. 5: Win or lose, basketball is great sport. Eost Troy won a 70-59 decision over the Comets. Feb. 13: Will you be my valentine? Freshmen put on the Volentine Dance. Feb. 19: Another Teachers' Convention. How we love them! Feb. 24: Sport spectode of the ycor—DHS faculty v . thot of East Troy. We won, 67-65. Feb. 26: D Club pep meeting—we lost o heartbreaker to Whitewater, 62-60. Annuol Staff Mixer.
