The School Board There are many people who do not realize the importance of a school board — they feel that it is a group of people set up merely to see that things run smoothly in our school system. In reality our school board has been instrumental in gaining many improvements for our school and in planning for the new school. For our school they have had the new exit to the gym added and have had the corridor between the two buildings widened; they have established the hot-lunch program and had a kitchen built for this purpose. For the new school they have bought a 74-acre tract of land and are having plans made for the new high school and, ultimately, a grade school on this site. The members of the school board are as follows; Mr. R. A. Miller, president, has been on the school board four years, succeeding Mr. E. B. Arnold who retired. Mr. Miller works at the Thomas B. Gibbs Company in Janesville and takes a very active interest in the Delavan Public Schools. Mr. Gunnard A. Piehl, the clerk, has been an active member for a number of years. The term of service of Mr. Piehl. who has been a building contractor in the community for many years, exceeds that of any other member. Mrs. Dora Lowe, the treasurer, has served several terms on the board which shows her active interest in Delavan Schools. She is principal of the secondary department of the State School for the Deaf. Mr. Walter von Gnechten has been a member of the board of education for about ten years. He has been a life-long resident of Delavan and has for many years been a foreman at the Bradley Plant. Doctor N. F. Crowe, succeeding the late John N. O'Brien, is the latest addition to the school board He has practiced medicine in Delavan many years and has always taken a keen interest in the Public Schools. f
SUPERINTENDENT J. F. LUTHER The COMET serves an important objective in the school life of Delavan High School. Through the records and pictures in this book our students are able to relive many of the interesting events of high school days. These pleasant associations and the friendships formed leave memories that should be kept alive. It is this continued interest in school that helps those that are now in high school to carry on some of the fine work that was started by our graduates. In this way our school is not just a structure of brick and mortar but a symbol of ideals lived. MRS. VAUGHN. SCHOOL SECRETARY
