On November 3 we really enjoyed ourselves — Mr. Mansfield. a Negro tenor, sang for us. On November 5 — both bad and good news. Right then I decided to study harder the second nine weeks. Teachers' convention for two days — ahhh sleep! The boys were back in the rut again: McHenry. 27 - us, 7. Forget it! I wonder why they started to lock the balcony doors at 4:15 just when basketball season started! and we did so want to look at those handsome . . . well, ah . . . basketball uniforms!! November 11 we took time off to remember Armistice day with J. Arthur Moran as speaker. The poor girls' bankbooks — another Twirp affair November 14 — the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Miss McCoy and Mr. Mourn — cute! We do too have talent at D. H. S.! vocal talent, anyway. They gave us a concert on November 20. That night we had our first basketball game at Milton. Victorious, natch! 28 - 26. A thrilling game — overtime and everything! Then November 26 with Harvard here. Thanks, boys. 23-21. Had a short program and dismissed early — Thanksgiving. Oh. I ate too much turkey, but was back on time anyway December 1. December 5, what was the matter, boys? Marengo 39. D. H. S. 29. Whitewater gave us a program on December 8. Ho hum! (Those two must have had practice!) The next night the Comets mowed down Elkhorn 52 to 30. On the beam? Glenn Morris could tell us on December 12. So I was hoarse December 18. but Burlington did try to win. 26 to 25 is too close, but we came out on top. Junior High Dramat put on a cute play; what do you know, we can all sing! They let us out for two weeks. Hoo-ray! The annual Christmas dance was on December 19 from 9 to 12 (?) McHenry went down to defeat, 56 - 33. Keep it up. fellas! January 5 would have to come — oh well, back to the struggle. Mr. E. Bown has a wonderful memory. By the way. where's the S25.00 I was going to win? Second place is just as good as first place; besides, that was just luck, Lake Geneva The score 51 to 43. the date January 9. January 12 through 15 — semester exams. Too bad I didn't start studying at the beginning of the semester! On January 16. Harvard gave us kind of a cold reception. 33 to 28. On January 23 the Comets proved that they could still do it—Marengo 27. Comets 67. 22
