CHONITA Chonito, a gypsy musical, given through the combined efforts of the A Cappella Choir and Dramatic Club, proved to be a great success. This was evident by the attendance, which excelled 1,000. The operetta was under the direction of Miss Dorothy Flitcroft and Mr. Ronald Gee. Mr. Kleyensteubcr directed the orchestra. The entertaining story of the gypsy lovers was presented November 4th and 5th in the State School Auditorium. Interior scenery and costumes were characteristic of the late Eighteenth Century in Hungary. Exterior scenes of a gypsy encampment, plus the chorus singing, played an important part in setting the mood for this musical based on themes by Franz Liszt- The Cast of Characters Barbara Horn Marilyn Munger . Mommina, C. McClellan. The A Cappella Choir, directed by Miss Flitcroft, has had a very successful year. The biggest event was the operetta, Chonito, in which the whole choir participated. The first concert given was at the Christmas assembly for the high school students. On February 17th twenty-two of the choir members took part in the Massed Choir at Lake Geneva. They were: Beverly James, Barbara Horn, Betsy Tschorner, La Verne Dibble, Betty Olson, Barbara Zimmerman, Betty Anderson, Alice Fleming, Marilyn Munger, Judy Schnell, Jean O'Brien, Dick Luther, Dick Honeyager, Rollie McClellan, John Kleven, Dick Haugen, Irwin Horn, Charles McCommons, Francis Rlahive, Gordon Lieurence, Gene Cour, ond Bob McClellan. We were very proud to have our accomponist, Mary Bes-wick, help in accompanying some of the numbers of this concert. Both Mary and Audrey Zilisch deserve a great deal of credit for their faithfulness in accompanying the group throughout the year. The Spring Concert given on March 7th proved to be one of the best concerts performed by the choir. Part of the program was sung by the Chaminade Chorus and the Girls' Sextet. Soloists with the choir during the year have been Barbara Horn, Marilyn Munger, and Dick Honeyager. On March 15th the choir chartered a bus to hear the Lawrence College Choir at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee. The A Cappella choir entered the festivol at Whitewater this year in class A. The choir officers are Charles McCommons, president; Rollie McClellan, vice-president; and Francis Flahive, secretary-treasurer.
