Dear Joe, September 5th was o beautiful doy—while it lasted. School started again . . . Our first assembly—music from the State School for the Blind. They were wonderful1 Joe, I'm awfully sorry, but we lost our first football game to Jefferson 45-0 . . . The boys this year are short and light, but they have that old D.H.S. fighting spirit. September 29—we battled again and lost this time to Elkhorn . . . D.H.S. and Lake Geneva fought it out and guess what?—we lost. The Junior High magazine sale began. 'lady, you don't want to subscribe to a magazine, do you? October 12—the senior boys, bless their souls (all 16) are learning to cook . . . probably make some lucky girl a good housekeeper someday. The 13th of October, they did it again—Burlington. Golly Joe, you wouldn't believe Delavon kids are such swell sports. U! Rah! Rah! Delavan!— who else? It was a wonderful game—we tied Whitewater. October 23—Entertainment by the Bentley Trio—the fellas seemed to like the dancing of Delores. (Boing!) October 24—What will they think of next? (the P.T.A.) Open house—you know—school at night . . . Even the teachers were glad when it was over. Has onyone an idea for a floot floating around? October 26—Homecoming . . . When is somebody going to stop the 8th grade from walking off v.ith first place ... It sure was great, even though we lost to Milton. The fellows on the football team this year are really swell and did they ever try hard. The next night we crowned Katherine Finley the Homecoming Queen at the dance. Did she look wonderful? Uh-huh! From the 2nd of November to the 7th we kids were in seventh heaven . . . Teachers' convention. Joe, we lost our first basketball game—with the Alumni! It was bound to happen sometime! November 17—The girls in Home Ec. put on a nice fashion show . . . smooth and smart shapes (not geometric either). November 18—Romeo, Romeo, would you like to cut a rug with me at the Sadie Hawkins Dance?—Still leap year, you know. It even happened again, Joe—Walworth this time. Another little lapse of time . . . darn, why couldn't Thanksgiving come twice a year? But Thanksgiving is over ond I've got to gel back to work, so I guess I'd better quit now. Yours, P.S. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Susie 17
