The Comets started the season by beating Beloit ond Jefferson by the one hit and no hit games pitched by Hauffe. Although Hauffe’s pitching on the Comet's home field was exceptionally good, he couldn't seem to find the plate on fields away from Delavan. The season was highlighted by the fact that Comets won all their home games and lost all the games played away from home. The players who received letters were Capt. Sanford, Bob Hauffe. Dave Franklin, Earl Cook, Dick Sfurtevant, Bill Klein, Francis Clapper, Marvin Pogel, Gordon Madison, Don Deschner, and Charles Schmaling. This year looks rather dark with the return of only three letfermen. This means that the 1945 Comets will have to be rebuilt. 10

Marino left the squad after the first game. Although the Comets didn't win o game, they were never accused of quitting before the final horn had blown. While the squad was large, if was mode up of mostly underclossmen. This means the Comets are to be watched in years to come. At o special assembly of letterwinners the squad elected Carroll Spencer captain of the “44 Comets. Spencer played an outstanding game of tackle throughout the season. Letters were awarded to the following players: Carroll Spencer, Pat Murphy, Don Sturtevant, Jim Britt, Gordon tieurence, Lawrence Rosencrons, Gene Murphy, Don Hopkirrs, Francis Clapper, Rollie McClellan, Earl Olson, Froncis Flohive, Charles McCommons, Wally Bradford, and Manager Les Babcock. 12
