This was a season with some disappointing losses for the Comet grid-ders. Perhaps the worst memory was the homecoming loss to Whitewater with the ball resting on the one yard line when time ran out. The team did have some good wins throughout the season like the overtime victory over Union Grove and the crushing defeat of Badger in the seniors' last game. The Comet defense again dominated the conference and recorded four shutouts for the year. Four players from the squad were placed on the All Conference team. We coaches are looking forward to next year with eighteen returning lettermen. The girls knew that they had the necessary talent to win meets but their attitude had to match their talent. Very early in the season I was aware of a feeling of self-confidence and a sense of unity among the girls. I really feel that that is what made this group of girls winners. Probably the high point of the season came in the Southern Lakes Conference Meet at Waterford , where we clinched the championship by beating runner-up Waterford on their home course by 14 strokes. The season highlights would be the 26 personal best times swam at the Small School Invitational and beating Badger in the conference meet. The swimmers' success can be traced back to the amount of work they produced in the pool accumulating over 300,000 yards, which is over 170 miles of swimming. James Kammerzelt With the return of thirteen letter winners, the girls swim team anticipated a successful season. After long hours of practice, intermingled with dedication and determination, the anticipated success turned into reality. New school records were established. The 1978 team was one of the hardest working group of athletes I have been associated with. It was not only a successful season, but enjoyable as well. John M. But the wins and losses are only part of the reason that this season was so outstanding. The team demonstrated great desire, maturity, togetherness, unselfishness, a willingness to work hard, and tremendous team spirit. The team’s record will always show that this team excelled on the floor but this team must also be remembered for its wonderful attitude. The recent past has proven to students, parents, and educators that freedom without discipline and responsibility leads to lower academic standards and a decrease in conscientiousness. This in turn reflects on the level of accomplishment in later life. We, at Delavan- Darien High School , can be very proud of our innovative and progressive school. As an educational institution, we are a leader in the state. We have encouraged students to involve themselves in evaluations of the school's curriculum, rules, policies, student activities program, and many other areas. Student cooperation and responsibility were very evident this year - a fine tribute to our students. The programs implemented to improve academic standards were the most significant achievements for the year. FRONT ROW SCHOOL BOARD: William Strever, Mary Drushella, Judy Delaney, Duane Logterman. I feel sad. There have been a lot of unforgetable experiences . Except for the rules, I really think D-DHS is a terrific school with good teachers and a lot of opportunities. This year I didn't really emphasize schoolwork. Instead I got to know many of you and that is what really counted. You have all been so wonderful to me. I just wish that the whole world were neighbors and we could meet often . Please, if you get a chance come to Sweden and see me. I would love to show you around. I hope so much that your lives will be filled with happiness from now on and forever. I will always remember you. SECOND ROW: Mary Eslick, Myrta Hill, adviser, Donna Olson, Pam Evink, Julie Brci-denstein, Kristi Honeyager, Shannon Hummel, Lisa It is hard to sum up a whole year in a couple of paragraphs, but I can honestly say that every bit of it has been well worth it. That's not saying it was all good times. It would be impossible to live anywhere for a year without having a few difficulties. I am glad for these difficulties because that is where I learned a lot about other people and mostly about myself. After spending 4Va years at an all girls school it was quite a change being in D-DHS, but I liked it. I have seen a lot of schools in Wisconsin and I think you should be proud of the school you have — as it is by far one of the nicest. Usually its not until you leave a place that you begin to appreciate it. For most of you it is probably hard to accept someone that you have not known for years, but I'd like to thank those of you who became my friends. Most of all I give a special thanks to Mum, Dad, Michelle, Kris, Cathy and Steve Anderson for accepting me as a part of their family. I now feel that I have a second family. Love, Lynn Anderson, Lynn Teesch. BACK ROW’: Renee Wheeler, Jean Williams, Kris Anderson, Takehiro Shigemoto, Jody Gordon, Dana Simons, Rohilio Cuautle, Porfirio Benavides, Julian Salas. Do as much as you can. and if you can't make it, that's all right. These words supported me all year long. I needed to make friends, but actually I have very few friends to whom I can talk most of everything. This shows really what I am. I did not make enough effort. Having few people to talk over something troublesome in a foreign country where they speak a different language is quite an experience. But I'd like to prove myself out of this experience. Finally, thank you very much to Mr. Scott, the cross country coach, the track coaches, Cu Tran, Mary Cordano, Lynn Barclay, Helena Osterberg, the boys track members, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kalb, Debbie Kalb and Dennis Kalb.
