It all began...On March 15, 19 76, members of the community met and voted to borrow $300,000 from the State Trust Fund to construct of new Instructional Media Center (IMC) at D-DHS. In June the construction began, and by August, when the students and teachers returned, the courtyard was enclosed and mysteriously dark with unusual sights and sounds. After 3,460 ceiling tiles, 190 flourescent lights, 1,200 shelves, 1,643 sq. yds. of carpeting, 111 wall panels and miles of wire were installed, it was time for the move. A few days before Christmas break the move began, but not without the help of many students. Could it all be moved, the books, the magazines, the desks, the shelving, the ERC, and the SSRC in only ten days? Moved and seemingly ready, the new IMC opened on January 3, 1977. And OH! the comments: Does it really seat 200 students? Why don't the walls touch the ceiling or floor? Who picked out the carpeting? Where's the magnolia tree going to be? It's nice, but I have just one suggestion... 8
