The football team won the SIC conference title at Wilmot. and upon returning, were greeted by hundreds of enthusiastic fans at Tower Park. Final Good-byes at Graduation Their senior year is here at last. High school has brought them many memories, both good and bad The Seniors began their year with the election of class officers. Richard Carlson as President..Susan Prahl as V ice-President. V alerie Voss as Secretary and Susan Martin as Treasurer Vt the beginning of their senior year, their class suffered the tragic loss of Mr. Joseph Slurtevant after I).O's first football game lie played a big part in the success ol their prom as an advisor Homecoming quickly came and passed with the seniors taking first in every event I lien Hamilton and James Cleveland reigned as Queen and King over the activities Vs the year passed they saw their last football game as students in I)-OHS. and also their last VIS Sadie Hawkins Day dance Our seniors witnessed many changes in their four years new teachers, a new school system and unlike other classes, an entirely new administration Memories arc made of the trials and tribulations they faced as they worked up from young freshmen to mighty seniors The class worked together and met their problems head on Too soon, the time came for them to bid D-DHS and all underclassmen farewell. Promotes International Friendships Two FS students were sent to Deluvan in 1968 and 1969. Marianne I .ich tense It op from Austria lived with the Wayne Utiger family, and Frank Tcran from Ecuador lived with the James Lees family Two Delavan students went abroad on the summer exchange program in 1968. They were Connie Bet er, who went to Italy, and Susan Phelps, who went to France. In February 1969. Nancy Dwornik was accepted and traveled to Chile for the year abroad program. Caroline Welch was selected for the 1969 summer program The AFS club sponsored the annual Twerp Dance and AFS Carnival. Meetings were held monthly, and various interesting programs and activities were held at these meetings. Mrs. Ruth Kelsey was the adviser for AFS Club. All interested Delavan-Darien students were eligible to join in the activities. With usually four meetings a month, one was dedicated to business and presided over by Cheryl Utiger. In her absence. T4 Student Council and Their Duties I'Ik Student Council completed many worthwhile activities this year Several of these were the organization of the Homecoming activities, which also consisted of a bonfire; an exchange program with Milwaukee Lincoln High School: wooden blocks were given as Christinas presents to needy children, and a Christmas tree was set up in the commons area to set an atmosphere for the visit of Santa Student Council consisted of representatives from the four classes. The number from each class was based on the number of homerooms in that grade. The Council met for a two mm! period every two weeks. On Wednesday morning, following each meeting, the minutes were read and discussed in homerooms. The council ran the canteen every night after school and during sports events as their major money-making activity. Laurel and Hardy and The Three Stooges films were also shown during the lunch mods to raise money. There were approximately 65 students participating in this organization. These students promoted school spirit by making signs which boost athletic events. During Homecoming the Pep club sponsored the powder-puff football team. The Varsity Club’s purpose was promoting school spirit in all school sports. They ran the canteen at the Borg Stadium during home football games, and sold popcorn to fans at home basketball games. They also bought C.atorade (which the athletes use as a drink during games), traveling bags, and blazers for the team members. They sponsored the Father-Son memorial banquet, and landscaped the Scholle memorial. The officers were Dennis Logtcrman, president; Paul Varoni, vice-president; and John Zahm, secretary-treasurer. The only two setbacks of the season came in the Homecoming game, when D-DIIS was defeated by the Burlington Demons, holders of the 1968 Southern Lakes Championship, and in the D-DHS Badger game, w hen the Comets lost by a score of 7-6. The Comets were again coached by Mr. Wallace Zimmerman. Co-captains of the team were seniors Joe Morgan and Dennis Logterman. The Comet team had four players w ho were selected for the all-conference team. Builds Strength for Next Year Due to rising interest in the sport, the 1968-69 season was the first time D-DHS had a full J A wrestling team. The freshmen and sophomores on the team gained valuable experience for the future varsity team. Some of the wrestlers, after gaining experience on J V., were moved up to the varsity team. The J.V. wrestlers were coached by Mr Daniel Dutcher and Mr Donald Teesch. Library aides helped daily in the school library, preparing for librarian careers.
