Mr. John Hamburg Principal July--October 1963 Your Education Perhaps the most heartbreaking time of the year was when the Delavan-Darien High School Principal, Mr. John Hamburg, died in New Mexico while attending an executive committee meeting of the National Secondary School Principals Association. Mr. Hamburg, who came to De la van-Darien High School in July of 1963, was proud of it, its facilities, faculty and students and mentioned this fact frequently. After his death a memorial fund, established by the students and faculty, was used to purchase a set of THE GREAT BOOKS OF THE WESTERN WORLD for the school library. Mr. Raymond Anderson, superintendent of schools since March of 1963, acted as principal, with the help of Mr. Joseph Rondeau, Spanish teacher and assistant principal. Thanks to the help of these two, the school managed to operate smoothly until Mr. Allen D. Olson was employed as principal. Mr. Olson, who had been principal of the New Richmond High School, assumed his duties at D-DHS in January of 1964. Mr. R. A. Anderson Superintendent Mr. Allen D. Carroll Treasurer Mr. Irvine Llewellyn Director Mr. Donald Beardsley Clerk Their Time for The main goal of the Board of Education is to have the most efficiently run and best school possible. The school board members meet every third Monday of each month so that this can be accomplished. In addition to these meetings there are many special meetings which they must attend. By attending conventions, talking with board members and superintendents from other schools, and reading school board publications, the Board of Education reviews its ideas on how to cope with problems in the school. The five members must also hold an annual meeting of the school district and represent the district at various functions of the school. 8

Mrs. Dora Kooistra, Mrs. Edith Siert, Mrs. Evelyn Wendorf, and Mrs. Mildred Hipp arc shown at the left serving lunch to the students. Mrs. Bernice Seibert, the other cook, is not pictured. They Maintain High Standards D-DHS custodians, pictured above, arc Mr. Clarence Wiser, Mr. Marlyn Fehrm, and Mr. Willard Wendorf. Mrs. Siert, Mrs. Hipp, Mrs. Kooistra, Mrs. Wendorf, and Mrs. Seibert are the five cooks at D-DHS. They are responsible for the meals served to the students everyday. Some of their duties include preparing menus and the meals, making reports, ordering food and other supplies, and serving the meals. They work hard to please the students in their likes and dislikes for certain foods. Mr. Wiser, Mr. Wendorf, and Mr. Fehrm are the Mr. Fixits at D-DHS. They keep the school and grounds clean and in excellent shape. Mr. James Christianson was employed as the Building and Grounds Supervisor. This was the first year that this system was used. He is in charge of all maintenance and all the school equipment. Mr. Christianson is also a member of the faculty, teaching engineering drawing. 10
