HOMECOMING The homecoming dance was held after the game on Friday,September 30th. The gymnasium was decorated with fall shades of brown, yellow, and peach. The streamers of different shades were woven into a lattice work effect which formed the ceiling. The sides of the gym had cut-outs of football players representing the members of the team. Music was furnished throughout the evening by Knutson. The climax of the evening was the grand march and the crowning of the king and queen. Hardy Kroeze and Mary Boviall. BASKETBALL A” FIRST ROW, left to right: Bob Anderson, Dick McCarthy, Hardy Kroeze, Gordon Putman, Jerry Packard. SECOND ROW: Coach Prahl, Bill Larson, Paul Kalb. David Cox, Jerome Welch, Paul Kempkin, Dale Beardsley, Tom Krueger. Jerry Scott. The test of character comes when the going is rough. At the close of Darien's roughest season. Coach Prahl and his team still hold the respect of the student body and the entire community. With only a small number of boys from which to prepare a team Mr. Prahl has carried on. The team has accepted defeat without griping and have always put up a good fight even when the odds were against them. Although Darien hasn't had a championship team in recent years there have been teams and players to be proud of. For example the 1954 football season, when Darien placed second in the conference, being beaten only by the champions. In the 1954-55 basketball season, Darien was proud of having the top scorer in the Southern Regional Conference. Although the scores of this season don't give credit to the hard work of Coach Prahl and his team, the squad showed, during each game, marked improvement and potential. Everyone is looking forward to next year and a team that we hope will have greater success. In any case it is more important to play the game fair and square than it is to win. J(i
