BASKETBALL First Row, Left lo right, Gordon Putman, Bob Verboef, Ernie Kalb, Russ Richardson, Hardy Kroeze. and Manager Larry Jacobson. Second Row, Coach Prahl, Dick McCarthey. Don Conley, Donnie Oleston, Jerry Sheahan, Jerry Packard, and Manager Dave Peterson. “A” Team The Darien Basketball Squad finished the 1954-55 season with 2 wins and 12 losses. The team really sparked at the Whitewater Tournament by winning two out of three games. They went on to the District Tournament at Lake Mills. Darien played Johnson Creek and althoughthe game was evenly matched Johnson Creek came out on top. There was very fine teamwork on the court this year. The team elected Ernie Kalb as its captain for the season. Russ Richardson was a large asset to the team for his outstanding ball playing. Russ earned the title oi high point man of the Southern Regional Conference having 336 points for the season, these include only conference games. Darien is certainly proud of their team.

HOMECOMING GAME On Friday, October 1, the Darien football team had a messy battle with the Capron squad at Darien. The Eagles won by a score of 14 to 6. The scoring for the Darien team was done by Russ Richardson and Bob Verhoef. Edwin Wilke started the Darien team on its way by intercepting a Capron pass. On the third play Russ went 8 yards for the first touchdown. The kick for extra points was no good. Again in the first quarter. Bob intercepted a Capron pass and went 20 yards for Darien's second touchdown of the evening. Again the kick for extra points was no good. In the second quarter Don Lindberg scored for Capron on a 15 yard run. Capron's try for extra points was no good. It was a see-saw battle throughout the 3rd and 4th quarter until the Capron team was caught with their backs against their own goal, and Bob tackled Haley, of Capron. behind their own goal. There was no scoring by either team after that. Capron lost 30 yards on penalties throughout the game to Darien's 15 yards. Considering the b3d weather there wasn't much fumbling. It was raining on and off throughout the game. The score by quarters was as follows: Darien 12 0 0 2 Capron 0 6 0 0 Darien: Center; Peterson. Ends; Verhoef, Oleston, Kalb, J. Conley. Backs; Putman, Wilke, Richardson. D. Conley. Capron: Center; Nelson. Ends; Sodenberg, Pease, Day. Back; Lomas, Hermanson, Lindberg, Haley. Homecoming Dance Queen Pat Rammien King Edwin Wilke After the game thehomecomingdance was held. The main feature of the evening was the grand march, with the crowning of the Queen, Patricia Rammien by King Edwin Wilke. The senior representative on the court was Jerry Sheahanwith his companion Ruby Meyer. Janet Zwieg represented the Junior class with Don Conley as her escort. Kenneth Williams and Rosalie Redeniusrepresented the sophomore class and Don Suhr and Mary Boviall the freshman class. 26
