I .conn is artistic A very friendly girl With eyes of green unci hair of brown Bright things she docs unfurl . Senior Class Prophecy One day last September, on our return trip from New York where I had an engagement singing at the Blue Note Night Club. Don and I realized that we were going to pass through our old home town, Darien Better known for its famous saying The Town with a Future. Seeing as we had a few hours to spare we decided to stop in and see if we could find some of our old friends. As we stepped out of our new Cadillac on Main Street, we saw that many new changes had been made and that Darien's future had really developed. Glancing down the street 1 saw a very distinguished gentleman walking toward me. taking a second look I realized it was William Meyer. After a few minutes discussion 1 found out that he was now the new Superintendent of Darien High School and had taken on all responsibilities, including Chemistry class H said that they had a new school and that the students were just as smart as ever He then had to hurry off to a teachers meeting but before he le.c I asked him where my old friend Joyce Oleston was. Much to my dismay he told me she was over m Paris, France, an officer in the U. S. Wacs and quite a prominent figure. Bidding him good-by we continued on Glancing up 1 saw a sign that said, Norm's Lingerie 1 opened the door and walked in. there stood Norma with a smile on her face, jusi as I had remembered. She recognized me and came bounding over, she told me that between caring for her shop and her little boy she was quite busy. 1 asked her if she knew where Katy Behrens was, and she said that Katy had continued living on the farm, but her name was now Bigelow. Just then in came a cute little girl and asked if her Mommy had been in yet Norma said, no, and the little girl left Norma said. Do you know who that was? Well, of course 1 didn't so Norma told me that she was Ann Wilke. Roberta and Chuck's little girl. I was quite surprised when Norma told me that Roberta and Chuck lived on a farm 1 was quite sure that Chuck would have still been in the garage business. Norma then said that another prominent figure in town was Allen Zw'eig who had a big contracting business and that Allen Erkfit . r.m errands for Zweig between Dclavan and Darien, she said it was quite convenient tor Erk as he still had many old girl friends in Dclavan. Feeling that Norma and I had a successful talk 1 told her that I really must gc as I hadn’t much time I bid Norma farewell and went out Don came running up with the town newspaper in his hand and told me to look at the ad in the paper. It said, Men, do you want women to swoon over you? If you do come to my studio and develop your natural charm. In three easy lessons you will know' my secrets. Prop, Bill Garber. ’ Well 1 told Don he didn't need any lessons, so we went on down the street. The next sign that greeted me was Vote for Sveiven for Mayor. Main office here. We walked in and there was Rodney giving a speech. After he had finished I walked up to him and told him who 1 was. He was surprised at our meeting but I knew that Rodney used to convince people of things, so this was a good job for him. He told me that another friend of ours. Shirley Williams was the County Nurse now and that she was climbing higher in the nursing profession Soring as wo didn't have much time 1 asked him if he knew anything about Leona T zone ft He said she owned a large art studio in Chicago and that her business was flourishing Thanking him lor his information we left and went back to our car. Just as wc got there our twins woke up and asked for an ice cream cone. Don ran in and got them one and then we went on our way. 1 was really satisfied with seeing all the kids again But had a sad feeling thinking that I was again leaving all my friends. 20 Music to Sin The Senior Class of ”'51, Bids our school a fond farewell; Now wc leave our friends and teachers who'vc been swell We'll remember all the knowledge. And the lessons that we've learned; Use it to fulfill the dreams. For which we've yearned. As we go out. Into the world; We'll be so proud. That we have DIPLOMAS! We will miss the halls and classes. In the first game of the season a much inexperienced Darien six came up against a big and fast Clinton team. Clinton overpowered us decidedly by a score of 53-0. Darien then traveled to Richmond. They never gave up but met defeat anyway by a score of 41 to 8. An improved Darien team then met Williams Bay at Darien. The boys showed they still had spirit and were beginning to overcome their inexperience But again a hard fighting Darien team saw defeat, 19 to 14. Allen Zwieg was lost for the remainder of the season due to a bad knee injury. In a non-conference game at Darien the Eagles met Norris Farm. They showed they had the stuff against a stubborn opponent and came from behind to win 34 to 20. Darien met Sharon in their next game at Darien. The game proved to be very rough and it seemed as if Sharon got most of the breaks because they came out on top, 26 to 14. The Eagles then traveled to Hebron for the Hebron Homecoming. The field was very wet and muddy and it rained through the entire game. Darien, however, seemed to be better mudders and won by a score of 19 to 0. in the l4st game of the season, and the last high school game for Erkiitz and Wilke, the team traveled to Palmyra. In another very rough game the Eagles went down fighting but couldn't seem to get rolling. The score was 27 to 13. Although most of the time they met defeat they always kept trying and never lost hope. They did their best and we should be proud of them. The team elected Chuck Wilke as their captain for the season. Darien struck back a few minutes later with Hayes g ing over from a tight T. from four yards out. The drop kick for the extra point as blocked. In the second quarter Whitewater scored twice. The first was scored by Marshall on a 35 yard run. The point after touchdown was no good. The score stood at 12 to 6 when Marshall passed to Stead for a touchdown which covered 20 yards. Marshall's pass to Stead was good for the extra point 41 At the halftime the score was 1 9 to 6 in favor of Whitewater “Court of Honor” in the second half Whitewater again scored first on a I 5 yard run by St. Angel Marshall's pass to Bray was good for the extra point. Darien came back with a touchdown pass from Hayes to Cary which covered 9 yards. Hayes' kick was blocked. Whitewater scored again on a 51 yard run by St. Angel Again the extra point was blocked. At the start of the fourth quarter. Marshall passed to Stead for a touchdown which covered 35 yards. Darien finally came back and scored on a pass from Wilke to Parker which covered 9 yards. Hayes' drop kick was good for two extra points. In the closing minutes of the game Grandt intercepted a Darien pass and ran it back 15 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was no good. George Smith, the Homecoming king, was lost to the team for the rest of the season due to a broken ankle whicli he received about midway in the second period. Jr«n Glcaaon. This year we went to The Wisconsin Dells It was a very interesting trip and many of us brought back pictures, post cards, and souvenirs On January 25, 1952 we went to Janesville to broadcast a wildlife program over WCLO. While in the city we also visited such places as the bakery, airport and the county jail. The basketball team of 1951-'52 have won five out of their twelve games. The boys are doing a fine job and are hoping to help out the high school next year. During the year the girls have been knitting and painting figurines while the boys have made kites and some very interesting soap carvings. Our project for the year was making our own school paper, which we call the Eaglette. This paper comes out twice a month. Everyone helps to gather and write up the news Ruby Meyer was chosen to be the editor and Patty Rammien is her assistant. Don DeMontigny and Ruby Meyer were selected to represent our class in the 1 •• -.chool student council which meets twice a month 76 Qrade Cheerleaders From Lelt Janol Z.wieg. Hat Manumen, Ruby Meyer.
