The Seniors made us go through with the freshman initiation. We went to Jonesboro on our outing and that was something, to be remem- bered. We tried to hold our heads high, even though we were The Underdogs of the high school. We had a good time that year. In our sophomore year we discovered we had lost six of the original class, but we were glad to welcome Faye Etta Collins to make us thirty-one members. This year Mr. CarlHenson was our sponsor. We went to the Community Center at Jones- boro on our outing. We enjoyed the trip very much. We entered our junior year with twenty-five members in our class. We were sorry to have lost five of our classmates, but we were now juniors and had things to do besides grieve over our loses. We elected Mr. RupertHutcherson as our sponsor. He help- ed us to plan our outings. We took the seniors to St. Louis and spenttwo days there. We came back broke but happy. We gave the seniors a banquet at Paragould. It was something to do down in history. While we were juniors we had two boys and one girl play- ing on the senior basketball teams, with others looking forward to making the teams the next year. We started our senior year with twenty-one members. Three of the girls married and one moved to another school. One boy, Coleman Wheeler joined the navy. Four boys and one girl from our class played on the Senior basketball teams. We did many things like making an annual, presenting our Senior play, attending the junior-senior banquet and going on the junior-senior outing. The greatest event of the year was when we received our rings. We are now wearing them as dignified seniors should. ,,--nw--V .wlnluylluluul . .,. .,- W- Y -. -. . ....vlln.,---Lv. '- CLASS PR OPHE C Y As I gaze into my nickel optimal glasses I see- many of the people who were in the Senior Class of 1947-48. First I see Larry Tower working in a large dairy near a small city. They tell me this city is Chicago. Larry says he is making good money washing cow's teeth with Old Dutch Cleanser . Next I see a great prize fighter on a very peculiar looking stage. He is substituting for .Toe Louis. This strong looking guy happens to be Howard Rice. As I gaze through the bifocus part of my glasses I see an old second- handed Wonder Bread truck. The chauffeur is said to be Darrell Foster. As I look into the back, I wonder if my eyes are failing me. There is Enid Cannon and their thirteen children. Enid says the bread truck is much easier to support than three-five passenger Coupes. Darrell is singing, Haven't Got A Worry . Oh! who is this? At last I recognize him. It is H. P. Thomen. He is living in a small shack, which resembles a pig-pen with a tin top over it. He says he is enjoying life, because he has just retired from selling peanuts in Denman. ' As I take another look I find Jack Tinsley and his adorable wife, Glendora Haynes, trying to make a somewhat larger city out of O'Kean, by putting up a big Tailor and Shoe Shop on Rabbit Avenue. Next I find Marvene Carter in the 'Movie Hit of the Year' Company, starring with C. R. Eveland. The name of their production is Revival of Delaplaine. Their producer is a very popular guy, Jackie French. I take another look to find Carl Boog Bennett, under an old tent. He is trying to make a living by shoeing horses night and day. He says the only disadvantage of his profession is that he can't make enough money to buy the nails that it takes for the job, as he only has to drive five or six before he can get one in straight. Next I find Car Peaches Haynes and Harold Runt Armstrong. They seem to be looking forward to their future lives. Poor little 'Runt' looks like he has been run through anelectric concrete mixer but 'Pea- ches looks very nice. He has so much white paint on his face, it makes him look as if he has a fresh shave. They are trying to build themsel- ves some kind of a little shack to live in when they start getting their old-age pension. They are not planning on working after they receive their first check. I take another look and find Hardy Wagner. He is in goat business in Peach Orchard. He is selling milk for a nickel a gallon. He seems to think he is making a big profit. Since such scenes make my head ache, I think I shall close up for the day. We accepted the sneers of the superior classes, because we recognized our unimportance as freshmen. Mr. 'Emil Thomas was elected as our sponsor. Mary Kathryn Goldman was Valedictorian, Arlena Varvell and Elsa Graham were Salutatorian, Clora Ruth Collins was Historian of the class. As the Sophomores of 1946-47 we started with an enrollment of forty-four. During the term we gained one new member, J. C. Haynes, and lost four. They were Arlena Varvell, Vietta Mcllvoy, Luther Ray and H. A. Gillian. Mr. C. W. Henson was elected as our sponsor. In the years '47-48, we, as juniors, started with an enrollment of twenty-one During the first semester Judy Ann McFarlin and Evah Roberts married and began life as housewives, but we gained five new ones. They are Wanda Ray, Vietta Mcllvoy, Earl and Eugene Lee, and Lamor McFarland. Mr. Rupert Hutcherson was elected sponsor of the Junior Class. We are all looking forward to a happy, successful senior year. 1 5 1 and E P Q 2 S- Willard Allison Zennie Armstron Geneve Blair Essie Cannon Norma J. Most of us having attended this school for years. We were joined by ten pupils from Okean, Surrige, and Sanders. A few pupils dropped out, some moved away to other schools, and one or two married. We started our tenth year with Mr. Varvil as sponsor and about thirty-five students. We were joined by two girls from Okean, one boy from Stanford, and two boys that fail- ed the previous year. We have lost several pupils this term of school. Some have just dropped out, others have moved away, and are going to other schools. We hope we do not lose any more of our class members for now we have the largest class in high school. This year, we had several to play on the softball basketball teams in our junior years of school. This year we are furnishing the star basketball player on the boys' senior team and we furnish five of the players for the senior gir1S'team. We take part in all the school activities. tag..- . v.Y....,.Y- ,.., , ,Y,V. 7-7 ,VY Mr. Felts v an fs Lucille Allison Loree Crabtree Jim Austin Cathern Crouch Betty I. One dropped and two have been added since the middle of the team. We hope to keep most of these pupils for our graduating year. We are proud to say that some of the members of our class made the softball teams of both girls and boys. We also have three girls and four boys from our class' on the junior basketball teams. We take part in every activity of the school. We try to be good sports and are ready to give our service. We tried to be good sports during the initiation period. After this was over we all agreed it was quite enjoyable. We hope to finish all our courses sometime and hope the students coming on behind will have as nice a time as we have and give their services and successes to help D.H. S. to be a better school. We are going to help them during the next three years of our school life. 1 1 1 I w w 1 w 1 3 MW EIGHT!-I GRADE 'M'-L2 ks a -.,. f ON '33 Ala. I 42,1 bx ,' 1 ll!!
