Superintendent Frank Dyer S UPERI T ENDEN T 'S OFFICE Delano High School is technically described as a comprehensive high school. This means that it offers, to the students who attend, opportu- nities to learn that are broad and varied. While we are concerned With providing preparation for effective citizenship, satisfying vocations and further educational training, We are also concerned With providing opportunities to learn to appreciate beauty. We are told that 'man does not live by bread alone' and understand that to mean that the beauty of the world and of the products of man's creative skills are important parts of life. The citizens of our community have consistently recognized the importance of the fine arts in the educational program of our school. Their support has made it possible for our high school to maintain vigorous programs and highly competent staffs in art and musicg Experience has shown that skills and appreci- ations developed in courses in these depart- ments have provided many of our graduates with lasting benefits which enrich the rest of their lives. As We look ahead to a future in which the satisfying use of leisure time Will become more and more important to all, the value of educational experiences in the fine arts becomes even more important. lt is our hope that We may continue to provide ever richer opportunities for our students to round out their lives with enjoyment of the fine arts. PRI CIPAL'S OFFI C Man s image and the image- of man has changed during recent decades, A few decades ago a cultured man or woman enjoyed the long- haired music, the works of the sculptors, of artists and the great classics of the world. To- day, relatively few individuals enjoy these finer arts, if you do, you don't admit to this love, be- cause if you do, you are a square . In this day there is more demand upon man's imagination that in anytime in recorded history. There are new designs to create in buildings, airplanes, locomotives and vast numbers of other industries. Fine arts in high school help to develop man's imagination and through imagination comes saleable items to spur the economy of our great nation. Who might know that through the knowledge gained in any one of our fine arts classes, speech, drama, art, vocal or instrumental music, a new concept might be gained to put you on the road to success.
