palette of vivid, varied, and vibrant colors is somehow symbolic of Miss Claire Hoster, art department chairman, whom we honor with the dedication of this book. Fortunate are we at Delano High School that she chose to begin her teaching career here in 1942 and to remain with us except for one year's leave of absence in England as a Fulbright exchange teacher. A master painter herself, Claire Hoster has the gift of inspiring others to express themselves creatively and to enjoy thoroughly that expression. Students have profited from her cultural influence and her gay, friendly personality. They will long cherish the memory of having been, what she affectionately terms, one of her monsters, I We are proud that Miss Hoster has won personal fame with her paintings, her art crafts, stage sets, her Athenian Banquet decorations. Herbroadknowl- edge of all of the fine arts--art, literature, drama, music--and her excellent personal library in these areas have made hera cultural consultant for the whole community, Life to Claire Hoster is an exciting and dramatic adventure. Her special in- terests, in addition to painting and crafts, include reading, travel, English his- tory, cooking with a gourmet touch, sewing, knitting, collecting books and re- cords, gardening, camping and fishing, skiing, and playing her Hammond organ. And she does everything so well, her friends moan enviously. She loves cats. Her favorite heroes are Montrose and T, E, Lawrence. She is really a jack-of- all-trades, for she is as adept with hammer and saw as she is with a paint brush or a potter's wheel. A strong sense of the dramatic, colors both her artistic achievements and her vibrant personality. When l see a scene, I play it to the hilt, she admits. Miss Hoster has won the admiration, respect, and friendship of faculty, students, and townspeople with her characteristic sophisticated humor, enthusiastic conver- sation, her talents, originality, sportsmanship, dependability, and her determin- ation to do a job well. i Claire Hoster has given generously to our school and the community. And she has done it with style, drama, and perfection. We are grateful.
