Your teachers and your students hold you in high regard. We like you as a person, for you are quick of wit, articulate, personable, and humanly warm and understanding. We admire you for many qualities, all of which make you a strong leader for our school--your intelligence, your interest in all facets of our activities and our learning, your high standards of professional and personal excellence, your dedication to the job of making and keeping Delano High School second to none. When a visitor comes to our school and expresses a wish to be taken to our leader, we do so with alacrity and great pride, We regret that your job as our superintendent is turning your hair gray much too soon, but every gray hair is, in a way, a badge of honor and a symbol of the sincerity and success with which you meet your responsibilities. This 1964 Del-Ano honors you, sir. Your students and staff, for whom I am the fortunate spokesman, affectionately bestow an honor richly deserved. Sincerely yours, 7 . HAROLD MARSHALL MR. ROBERT BOWER Clerk Board oi Trustees The Board of Trustees of the Delano Joint Union High School District, as the elected representatives of the people of the district, have continued to attempt to provide for all the students of our school the highest quality education consistent with sound fiscal policies. We are proud of our school, the fine staff, and of the students who have taken advantage of the op- portunities offered to prepare themselves better for the years ahead. Q44 Superiniendenfs Message In 1958 Delano High School earned a maximum five-year accreditation for its program of quality education. During this final year of that accreditation, the students and staff of our high school joined again in an examination of our education program. We turned on the spotlight of self-appraisal. An excellent visiting committee from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges helped us in this study. We found our high school's community was continuing to provide solid support for quality education through the actions of their elected representatives, the members of the Governing Board. During the year they author- ized such projects as the completion and furnishing of an additional homemaking class- room, the addition of refrigerated air cooling for the music building, the completion of an additional phase of campus landscaping and the purchase of additional lockers, classroom furniture and cafeteria furniture required for an expanding student body. We found our fine and growing teaching staff has made excellent use of an improving school plant to provide high quality education for an active student body. Our educational program is designed to provide solid basic education for allg continued progress in keep- ing our mathematics courses up-to-date and the study by the English department of ways of improving every students' reading skills ex- emplify action in this area. Our program also aims to provide students an opportunity to realize and develop special talentsg notable successes in student drama productions and fine musical productions by choir and band demonstrate this aspect of a program of quality education. We found our students convinced that they were attending a good school with a fine staff. Our students were participating actively in the large number and wide variety of co-curric- ular activities. These range from athletics Where the Tiger Spirit was consistently dem- onstrated, to academic honor societies where pride in academic achievement was honored and developed. Our year of appraisal has helped us plan a blueprint for our future growth and continued improvement. We look forward with confidence to the years ahead. ess-SQ Egfr MR. V. L. LEFEBVRE, Principal. , , .,,. Administrators Dear Student: It is always gratifyingto observe the physical and academic growth of young Americans. It is my desire that each of you will grow stronger physically, mentally, and morally, because if those traits are firmly nurtured, then our nation can be assured of a good citizenry.
