Hands? Needs Biology, Physics, General Science, California Natural History, and Chemistry are among classes offered by the science department, headed by Mr. Frank Dyar, chemistry and physics teach- er. Other science classes are instructed by Mr. Ed Butts, Mr. Nathan johnson, Mr. Gordon Lillis, and Mr. Robert Selent. A very active and important agriculture de- partment is headed by Mr. Edwin Maxson. This division offers boys engaged in agriculture a more thorough understanding of the entire field. Mr. Kermit Adams and Mr. Eugene Brass- field also teach ag classes. Under the management of physical education department heads, Mrs. Carolyn Sorensen and Mr. Ralph Allen, this division is skillfully or- ganized. A wide variety of games - tennis, vol- leyball, baseball, swimming, football, and hock- ey - are offered to boys and girls enrolled in the required physical education classes. Other full-time physical education teachers are Miss Barbara Goemer, Miss Ruby Olsen, and Mr. Waldo Stahl. Out in the big, nearly new shop building classes are taught in auto and wood shop, other industrial arts, and graphic arts, while the old shop building is still used for metal shop classes. Mr. Ray Hamilton heads the industrial arts de- partment. hip Has an Departments, Left, members of City League basketball teams jump for ball in regular Tuesday night game. It is no idle boast that the high school campus is the center of community activity. Classrooms are in use every week night for adult education classes in 25 such varied subjects as auto shop, crafts, vocal music, folk dancing, shorthand, driver training, English, and foreign languages. In the gym city-league basketball games are held, along with regular night school physical education classes. The big high school auditorium is used for nearly all community shows, such as the Harvest Holidays Queen Show, and the Music Memorial and Mother-singers, Concerts. Delano High's well stocked library is used by hundreds of students daily. Efficiently carrying out his job as head librarian, Mr. john Geyer supervises the re-organized li- brary facilities, assisted by Mrs. Marshall Coursen. New equipment was purchased this year, enabling librarians to have more con- trol of books. The school library now holds 5,100 books of fiction and non-fiction and a variety of magazines, newspapers, and phamplets. Above left are librarians Mr. John Geyer and Mrs. Marshall Coursen.
