Under this plan, emphasis is placed on business and commercial writing rather than formal composi- tion. Students in grades freshman through junior for whom English is a second language are provided with a program designed to help them be- come more proficient in English using their native language as a foundation. The program is aimed at broadening reading and speech and pronunciation and enunciation. Students planning to go to college are given a course especially designed to prepare them for the challenges ahead. Under the college-bound pro- gram, stress is placed on literature, composition, and vocabulary. The advanced placement program is similar to the college bound pro- gram in the type of material that is covered.
