Too Many Pounds' A Date I heard the ringing of the phone. 'tHello, I answered with a moan. There was a male voice on the line That made me smile and feel so fine. t'This is Jim. How 'bout a movie? So I said, t'It sounds real groovy. uI'll pick you up at half past eight. How 'bout if we double date? It seemed like years til Friday night. I dreamed of how he'd hold me tight. I groomed myself and looked just great. I'd waited years for such a date. The doorbell rang. I opened the door, Saw who it was, and fell to the fioor. It wasn't Jim from my math class But someone else I thought an I got my coat and left the house. Thought to myself, UOh, what a louse! He brought along his younger brother. Iwondered why he left his mother. It was a Disney Elm, no less. Boy, this whole night was sure a mess. And then we went to have a coke. I had to pay 'cause he was broke. And when we went to find the car I knew we'd never get too far- For this was sure the night of nights: The stupid jerk left on his lights. The three A came. It was so late. I prayed that I'd survive this date. I learned this rule regarding men CI won't do THAT ever againlg There was a boy named Johnny Stash Who just would not take out the trash. His mother screamed bloody murder. John acted like he hadn't heard her. Trash piled up and soon got old. The garbage can was filled with mold. Out came old and rusty tin cans Johnny's father threw up his hands. Crumpled paper and lemon peels, Leftovers from all of their meals, Bits of ribbons, old magazines, A pair of old worn-out blue jeans. Soon the garbage just overfiowed When filled with this enormous load. And all because of Johnny Stash Who just would NOT take out the trash. The Ballad of Billy lVlagoon It was late one night in the month of June, When sudden death came to Billy Magoon. The night was foggy and the stars didn't shine Billy was home, drinkin' his wine. His wife was complainin' 'bout the unpaid rent And Billy's small salary was already spent. Billy's wife kept on goin', not missin' a pace. Poor Billy sat there just hidin' his face. Across the way sat a crazy old man, A 22 caliber held tight in his hand. He stood up and walked to the window sill And looked across the way at ol' drunken Bill. Now this old shrivled man, Brant by name, Thought he'd save Bill from his wife's nagging He lifted his gun, ready to kill, And shot through the window at innocent Bill. The bullet hit Billy square in the neck. Poor Billy's wife was a nervous wreck. She cried and cried for being so mean, But she learned her lesson, good and clean. Billy was buried three days after And people still talk of that sad disaster. Brant thinks he did good by taking Bill's life And saving him from the pain of his wife. pain. .T f f -Q ,ff 'B , fl t A crackleshob is a horrible beast Who lives in the forests of Westernly East. For years he has scared the people of Faird, Where pleasure and fun have permanently ceased. Many a time a brave young youth Would ride through the trees on a calacasoothe. The tale would be telled of how he beheld A crackelshob sharp'nin' his one white tooth. That one white tooth.-so incredibly long, At the end of the year it would rub him so wrong He would pull it from his big pink gum and toss it into the Gutchy-Goo-Tong. Now the Gutchy-Goo-Tong was a lake, so small The fish can't live there and that's not all, The years went by and the lake went dry 'Cause the pile of teeth grew a bit too tall. The people of Faird's tempers grew short. When the creature t'warn't looking, they'd all retort, We're getting mad and that's real bad. We'll kill him with zorbs or things of that sort. Nlost people think he was killed by-his wife. Still nobody is sure by whom Billy was slain. I guess they just tigure it'll stay unexplained. Lauren Pollak So with their weapons out they set. The hide of the crackelshob they aimed to get. Came face-to-face with the armored place Where his gum and white tooth met. When out from the Southernly-North there arose A clamor so loud the crackelshob chose To leave his prey for another day While in a love-spell his body froze. 'Cause over the hill there came such a sight The Faird folk shivered in all their fright. But the crackelshob rose and the story goes That he married that beast on the cold summer's night. Diet I really must lose weight. I weigh two hundred pounds. I'll go on a diet, as awful as it sounds. I must remember not to munch things that are sweet. I've got to be careful about the things I eat. Iwill cut out ice cream from my daily diet. And though I hate grapefruit, I will have to try it. No Pop Tarts for breakfast, doughnuts or Captain Crunch. Instead I'll have an egg and on dry toast I will munch. U.-1 7 fin 321- ' S I 2.9 6, 4, Once upon a time there lived an extremely gorgeous princess, Tephilia, who dwelled in her father's castle, in a kingdom called Whereveritis. This princess was admired by every prince in the neighboring lands because of her healthy, humorous personality, and especially because of her silky, blonde hair, her gorgeous figure, and her baby-blue eyes. She had one Haw however. She continously cracked her knuckles. One night at dinner, Tephilia was cracking her knuckles without end, so her mother, fed up, decided that every time Tephilia cracked her knuckles, she would have to eat a brussel sprout. Now this was an especially harsh torture for Tephilia because she HATED brussel sprouts. From then on, it was brussel sprout after brussel sprout, and two weeks later Tephilia became very sick. They called upon the best doctors, sorcerers, and magicians in the land to attempt to eradicate Tephilia's sickness. But nothing seemed to work. Seeing that no medicine or witchcraft would cure her, she began to get very uptight. lVlother! Come here! Sit down! Tephilia said one day in her tossled bed. Don't talk to your mother that way! her mother snapped. UI can do anything KCRACKJ that I feel like, said Tephilia stubbornly. Oh, I do wish you'd stop doing that. It's driving me absolutely crazy. The next day, the queen offered a reward to anyone who could get rid of Tephilia's annoying habits. This proved to be an impossible task because the minute anyone walked into Tephilia's room, he couldn't stand the continuous CRACK CRACK. Soon, the king and queen and many citizens of Whereveritis had fled from the land to get away from the barbaric princess. Head Wall Fall As you depart from the chair It gives you a shove. You're already sweating, From the sun above. Swish, swish swish, You start down the hill, Dodging moguls, What a thrill! You're picking up speed, You get hotter and hotter. The wind in your face, Makes your eyes water. From the corner of your eye, You see people stare. And you pass people's figures With the wind in your hair. As you speed down the hill, You suddenly see, Blocking your path, A big, tall tree. To avoid it you turn, And lose control. Then you fall, And start to roll. Sky, snow, sky, snow Is all you recall, After avoiding the tree, And taking the fall. The next thing you know, You're in a bed, In a county hospital, With a REAL sore head! And instead of a frown, a big smile spread across ' X - X the princess' face, lighting up the room as if the sun was right outside. The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden and He made beautiful flowers and trees and He gave Nlan dominion over all the creatures on the earth. And in the midst of the garden, God planted the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. And God told Nlan and Woman never to take part of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge lest they become corrupt, Now the Television was among the most cunning of all the creatures in the Garden of Eden. And the Television said unto Woman, 'IShall ye eat of every tree in the garden? And Woman said, We mayest eat of all the trees of the garden but the Tree of Knowledge lest we become corrupt. And the Television said, If ye eat of the Tree of Knowledge, ye shall not become corrupt. Ye may thereby take part of all the programs of education and love and purity that I may offer ye so ye may make use of your new knowledge. Yea, woman ate of the Tree of Knowledge and she gave the fruit unto Nlan and then they watched of the programs the Television offered them but the programs were not of education and love and purity, but of violence and war and the programs were meant to make rotten the minds of all who watched. And then Woman and Nlan realized what they had done but it was too late to repent. And the Lord God came upon them and He said, IIThou hast eaten of the tree that I commanded that thou shouldest not eat. And the Lord God drove Nlan and Woman out from the Garden of Eden, bidding them never to return. And Man and Woman left the peace and shelter of the Garden of Eden and journed into an uncertain world and with them they took the Television. 53 Babysitter's Blues I've lots to tell of my babsitting But this is the tale I feel is most titting. Minding six monkeys that horrible night They'd not go to bed without a big iight. They tied me to their parents' bed post, Pretending to play that I was to roast. When finally untied I punished each one. That wasn't the end of those bratty kids' fun. Because just before their parents returned They made such a mess my poor stomach churned. stumbling through blankets and sheets on the fioor, I conquered the mess and answered the door. When the parents saw the mess their kids made, It was crucially clear I couldn't have stayed. I fell out that door with my failure in mind. UI couldn't have helped it, I pitifully whined. I will never again watch over that lot Partly because they said I could not. Heather Findlay Me and My Monster I dreamed I walked on the beach last night And saw a monster that gave me a fright. He plopped himself right down in the sea And by and by a thought came to me. I'd get me a big ol' nylon net Which I would have strategically set. I'd lure the monster over to me And lock him up with my trusty key. And then do you know what I would do? I'd send him off to the nearest zoo. We then would become famous and rich. Just me and my monster, Lardavich. Alan Macias if L Q m ,Em 5-955,54 dl-fe ss Q av '33 Z' Electives Electives, electives, which should I pick? Typing and Spanish make me sick.
