rf mln 1 ll' a,r I 2 1' 555. 1 B A S K E T B A L L Hampered by the outbreak of war, the Viking basketball season was Hniln during the 1941-1942 campaign. At the outset of the season, prospects looked bright, but in the final stage of the cage drama, the forces of the Vikings were reduced almost half compared with the original team at the start. Playing seven encounters, the valiant Vikings won only one, while dropping the rest. ' At the outset of the season, with a new mentor, Bob Case to guide them, the Vikings dropped their initial tilt with the Mountaineers of Schreiner Institute, 24 to 27 on January 9. The next day they put up a stiff battle with the Texas Lutheran aggregation, only to lose 33 to 25, On January 16, the local collegi- ans broke into the win column, by rack- ing up their only victory of the season by trouncing the hapless San Antonio Junior College, 28 to 22. One of the best clashes of the season for the Vikings was played when the Victoria quintet met and de feated the CCJC Cagers, to the tune of 38 to 20. Regardless of the one- sided score, the Vikings played one of their best affairs of their com- paign. San Antonio JC got their reveng by winning 33-20 on Jan.24. Another close one for the records, with the Vikings having another hard piece of luck.
