World events crowd out school studies as students group around room 10 and ll students assemble to hear the president ask declare war on Japan. members started making native Spanish our teachers tripping the light --we can't let them get ahead of us like . Kerr and Spanish Club costumes. Discovered: -lovers waded through our Corpus Christi the Houston Symphony Orchestra. CIt was well worth ith. neg, ll--History and zoo classes listened to Congress declare war on Germany and Italy. Despite war, Spanish Club had their annual Christmas party. Dec, 12--Student directories came out. Physics class thought Japs were coming when a series of fireworks were set off near school. Dgg, 13--It takes nine years to complete all the courses offered by this Junior College, Swede figures the same time limit, just taking trig and algebra Dec, 15--Bill of Rights assembly: after a brief introduction by Dr. Hale, Bertrand Arbuckle and Patty Holder gave a dialogue on the Bill of Rights.

Students' spirit hit a new low when they heard of the emergency all night blackout. Jang-22--Students stumbled through exams, for which they were kept from studying by blackout. lag,-QQ--Mystery of the caged room in the new building: At first thought spectators supposed that, because of the wiring, it was a room for experimen- tation with rodents. But what a shock the Cruiser and Foghorn people got when they found out it was to be their future home. Feb, l-4--Students get plenty of that stuff called sleep. Feb, 4--Semester begins in new building. Students have the initial diffi- culties of finding their room and getting schedules straightened out. Classes were on 20 minute schedule, Freshmen were subjected to English tests. Egg,-Q--Second day: New students getting acquainted. Old students sorry to hear Mrs. Kerr is in the hospital at Temple. It is hoped she will be back soon. Freshmen took psychological tests, typical remark: nThey know I'm crazy, so why should I have to take a test.U Eeh,5--Charles Sergeant brought a friend to school--his pet dog. Reb, 1--Maxine Hooker, Mary Clemmer, Shorty Rouse, Eula Mae Sanders are the lucky ones going to A. and M. dance. Egg, 9--War time went into effect. Result--many sleepy eyes and Huneagern faces seen at first period classes. The nice, slushy, wet weater, which caused Bobs Crawford and Price to get stuck, did not add to the cheerfulness of the early hours. Zeb, 10--First assembly of new semester. Walter Dreier, Lorene Pouncey, Roy Rule, Roger Fore, Marian Mathis, and Patty Holder introduced the plan for a series of student assemblies, with a S10 prize for the best one, and a S5 prize for the second best. The first entertainment in the new school was a cabaret dance given by the Spanish Club in the dramatic arts room. It was a formal with all the trimmings--food, floorshow, and orchestra. Ish,-ll--Flash, girls: Never bum a ride home with Irving Liggett and his car Bessie on a rainy day, for you might have to push as Jewel Rae Nelson did. Egg, 12--Did anyone see Beatrice Limon and her perishable box? Could it have been chocolates? Zeb, 13--Alma Lee taking over during Miss Felder's absence. Electricity went off, which further complicated matters. No lights, no bellsg result: late students had good excuses, for once. Icp, 14--The rains came--no college today---Stummie, Walter, Kaler, Janosky, Kegley, Greek, and Peeler had a good time wading while making money pulling cars out of the mud. Ieb, 16--Registration day for ages 20 through 44. No school for studes, but faculty had to help register. Some lucky teachers got to see Bing Crosby and Johnny Weismuller. Egg, 11--Center of attraction: 4Third finger of Mary Carlisle Felder's left hand. Foghorn came out. '
