I left my folk and friends with the aim to clear my mind out. Well I hit the rowdy road, and many kinds I met there, many stories told me of the way to get there, ooh. So on and on I go, the sec- onds tick the time out, there's so much left to know, and I'm on the road to find out, ooh. Well in the end Illl know, but on the way I wander through descending snow, through the frost and thunder. I listen to the wind come, howl, tell me I have to hurry. I listen to the robinls song saying not to worry, ooh. So on and on I go, the seconds tick the time out, therels so much left to know and Ilm on the road to find out, ooh. Then I found myself alone, hoping someone would miss me. Thinking about my home, and the last woman to kiss me, kiss me. But some time you have to moan when nothing seems to suit yer, but nevertheless you know youlre locked towards the future, ooh. So on and on you go, the seconds tick the time out. Therels so much left to know, and I'm on the road to find out, ooh. Then I found my head one day when I wasn't even trying, and here I have to say, ,cause there is no use in lying, lying. Yes the answer lies within, so why not take a look now, kick out the dev- il's sin, and pick up, pick up a good book now, ooh. Yes, the answer lies within, so why not take a look now, kick out the dev- ills sin, pick up, pick up a good book now, ooh. Working hard with Mr. Grove and Mr. Perdue to get it togetherf' he has ac- complished many things. Having used his great sense of humor along with his knowledge of the students in general, he helped create a feeling of togetherness among the three classes as well as among the teachers and students. Although every job has its problems, Mr. Millican has consistently met his responsibilities with enthusiasm and vigor. But above all he always took time out to show the students he cared by at- tending extra activities such as athletic events, plays and music concerts. His home life was also filled with many outdoor activities. Besides attending all DCHS athletic events he enjoys fishing and boating with his family, as well as a little hunting now and then. He is also a spare time photographer and enjoyed taking pictures of his family and friends when they were participating in these events. A very qualified princi- pal, Mr. Millican has helped many students this year on their road to find out. Ernest Green Arnold Richardson Evelyn Thompson Counselors Work For Class Unit Although our Counseling staff was much the samt this year, we added a new face, that of Mr. Arnolc Richardson, our Jr. counselor. He worked along with Mr. Ernest Green and Mrs. Evelyn Thomp son to create a feeling of real unity throughout the school. The counselors had a very busy year witl the ACT and PSATXNMSQT tests, and witl meetings for seniors. and college representatives from various universities across the stateg but they were never too busy to lend an ear when they were needed. Whether it wasjust a friendly chat or a se- rious talk, they were ready to listen and help out in any way. They all with other members of the faculty tried to get to know the students better and to become friends with many of them. Our three counselors worked very hard this year to meet the goal of unity and we were proud to have such fine people as part of DCHS. Mr. Richardson was always a ready listener. Mr. Green and Mrs. Thompson were both 11918-- busy telephoners throughout the year. f 1 The three counselors were often in conference about an interesting problem of mutual concern to all of them. ,...............m. m... r Grover Bradley, Biologyg Don Branham, American and English H istory,' Sandra Brown, French, Englishg Sid Burton, Psy- chology, Team Sports, Albert Buswell, Bonel- Troy Caswell, English, Creative W riting,' Sandra Brown does a lot of her thinking in French, teaching it most of the day. Cafeteria Food was worth eating this year because the cooks really cared. The cafeteria, newly painted and very nicely redecorated, was the place most students chose to eat. More tables were added and to boost cafeteria eating, there were posters placed on the walls to call attention to the new way things were being done. Our custodial staff did a remarkable job this year keeping DCHS clean and bright for students, faculty, and visi- tors. The red carpets in the halls were swept daily and the tile in the east wing was waxed often and always shiny so that Del City looked good as new for its students and visitors alike. Eagle Footballers Boast 7-4 Season, Since pre-season Del City fans were enthusias- tic with the thought of having a successful year, they proved their support to the team by having the stands packed at every game. By the end of the second pre-season game, all reserved seat tickets were sold out. DC started off slowly the first two games of the season, but came back with an upset of 7-2 over Edmond. The next game was close, the Eagles fought to win their first home game, and finally slipped by Seminole, 14-13, by staging a goal- line stand as the clock ran out. On Oct. I5 DC climaxed homecoming week with a 22-6 victory over Star Spencer to avenge their one point de- feat during the l97l season. After dropping to Lawton Ike by a slight margin of 14-13, DC wound up their l97l season with four dynamic wins over Classen, Chickasha, Northeast, and Capital Hill. i e i s . i 1 l Head Coach Frank Hughes, Asst. Girls Team Sports Lead The Way In 1971-72 Throughout the year, girls' team sports promoted activity for high school girls. The girls participate in a number of sports such as volleyball, track, bad- minton, table tennis, basketball and in- dividual sports. Each girl takes an ac- tive part in her particular sport, at her own speed. They learn poise, grace, speed and skill in the process. Also during the course of the year the girls learn to use safety with all equipment and the care involved with such equip- ment. This program for girls is state wide. Teams from different schools compete against each other in the vari- ous sports. Council Elected President f State Organization Last year the Student Council made a vigorous cam- paign to become state president of the Student Council. The entire student body participated by making posters and fudge to support the campaign slogan the fudgiest school in the state. The fudge was given away at a con- vention were all participating schools met and Del City won the state presidency. Students are qualified for membership by being elected as representatives of a homeroom. The officers were elected by the student body. ' The Student Council had many resources for funds. Some of its projects were mum sales, a talent show, the student bookstore and a bookmobile. The money was used for leadership training and general Student Coun- cil expenditures. The Student Council was very active last year. It partici- pated in a summer workshop, District 9 workshop, and a state convention in Shawnee, to name a few. The Student Council was affiliated with District 9, Oklahoma Associations of Student Councils, National Association of Student Councils, and Regional Student Councils. An outstanding fact for last year was the Student Coun- cil president, David Harrison, represented the Oklaho- ma Association of Student Councils at Cape Kennedy. The Student Council was guided by Mrs. Gladys Flood and Mr. Don Branham. Officers for 1971-72 were: David Harrison, president, Wesli Hamer, vice-presi- dent, Karen Keenan, Rita Muller, Diane Lane, Rick Jackson, Denise Hingstong Kim Miller, and Lisa Price. The staff itself displayed enthu- siasm and gave a part of themselves to the effort of producing a new attitude towards the annual publication. Beacon Emphasizes Innovative Construction Last year's Eagle Beacon staff dis- played a superb ability in editing the school newspaper. The 7l-72 Eagle Beacon covered many of the school ac- tivities and gave in-depth reports on the major functions which highlighted the school year. To become a member of the staff, one had to take Journalism I or have a rec- ommendation by an English teacher. The staff was affiliated with the Okla- homa Interscholastic Press Assocation and attended classes at Oklahoma University. Led by new advisor, Mr. Calvin East- ham, the Beacon staff completely inno- vated the DC newspaper. To begin with, they decided to print on a more standard five column page. This alone emphasized that the Beacon is a news- paper. The staff also concentrated on improving the reproduction of photo- graphs in the paper. One unusual achievement came about when the first printing sold out. Billy Graham edited the 72 Eagle Beacon and he was aided greatly by the efforts of Nona Downs, business manager. FRONT ROW: D. The Del City marching band again proved itself worthy to be called the pride of Del Cityf, These dedicated young musicians practiced hours upon end to provide athletic crowds as well as concert audiences with perfected music and marching routines. During football season, 7:00 in the morning was early to find students al- ready at school - except on the marching field. It was at this time that the Eagle band worked out its varied field marching routines. This alone helped to establish the qualities of self- discipline and earnest responsibility in these band members. The Band Booster Club, an organiza- tion made up of interested parents, helped the band by running the snack bar during lunch hours, repairing old, worn equipment, and by helping fi- nance new equipment. The Band elected as its officers for the 1971-72 school year John Johnson, presidentg Nita Han- cock, sec.-treas.g and Greg Dixon, vice-president. Halftime Drills Emphasize Skill Precision During the 1971 football season, the Eagle band performed various drills and formations for the crowds. Among them were the DC formation, the X-O drill, and the entrance formation. To top off the season, the twirlers exhib- ited talent in a performance using their fire batons. I was staying in Del City for one year and I feel it has been a great chance for me to be here, last not least because only'a very few students who applied in AFS in Germany were allowed to go. You all want to know what I think about my year in Del City? Let me try to tell you a little bit about it in a few words. When I arrived at Will Rogers Airport I was completely confused. I mixed up my American Dad,, with a Catholic priest! I looked for a stage- coach in order to get a ride to Del City. I feared to meet some Indians on war- path and then when I finally made up my mind to say something I got the hick-ups and I was trying very hard to calm my stomach down from its rev- olutionary tendencies because of all the different food. Soon, however, I found my way around and began to adjust myself and feel at home with my new family. Also I found out some things which I began to like very much, so the uncomplica- tedness of life in my new home and at I 5 new LEFT: Peter's engaging smile brightens DCHS atmo- sphere. Of course I enjoyed my life at school with all the activities, clubs, and sports, especially all the stu- dents whom I met there as well as the teachers. School was not very hard for me, as I only had six subjects instead of thirteen in Germany. It was really fun, although I missed my long hair sometimes which I had been so accus- tomed to at home. What has been the easiest to get accus- tomed to? My new bed, the dishwash- er, and the hamburgers! What has been my greatest problem during the year? Writing letters in Ger- man language. After having been here for several months I could hardly speak my native language anymore! So far about my experiences in the United States and Del City. It has been a year full of adventures and new things to learn and to try and I really feel, that of all countries I have ever been to, America has surely been one most, and I will go back someday. Let me now, at the end of this school year, say thank-you to all who made it possible for me to come to Del City, es- pecially to all members of the A.F.S. chapterg also. I want to express my ap- preciation to the local merchants whose contributions have helped to make my stay possible and more pleas- urable and last not least, which is the most important, thank-you to my American family, Mr. and Mrs. Grif- fen, who did not only feed and host me free for one year, but also gave me the feeling to be at home here and helped me in everything I did. Hi to all students of Del City High School and'especially to my friends. Wherever you come to Germany come and visit me, please. You will always be welcome. Ich hoffe, dass ich. Euch alle eines. He explained the judiciary system for the State of Oklahoma, and also how the Court of Criminal Appeals has exclusive appellate jurisdiction in crimi- nal matters. Through Thomas Brett, John Rogers, and many other speakers, the Eagles were able to gain a better understanding of state and world-wide affairs. Murray Frank listened intently to Secretary of State John Rogers. 4 This Year the Thespians produced David and Lisa, a play in two acts by James Reach. David and Lisa was a play about two teen- agers with mental problems. David Clemens, an extremely clean cut young man, had a deathly fear of being touched. He believed that if he was touched he would die. Lisa Brandt was a schizophrenic. One character UAIONE .AfoNE,A1l.Afl AIONE : Afowe on A wfof wwe .seA, of her dual personality was a little girl who spoke in rhymes. The other personality was a sophisticated teen that communicated only by writing cryptic notes on a pad. Slowly David and Lisa grew to understand and trus each other. Through their mutual trust anc love they were able to guide each other ontc the road of recovery. Victory came to the Eagles in many ways. It could be seen in the school athletic teams, in school clubs to reach their goals, in the cheerleaders and pep club to boost school spirit, and in the students to support their school on to victory. The spirit in the school last year was raised immensely. The school's athletic teams gained and showed more confi- dence. The whole outlook of the school was considerably changed. All this was gained by the Eagles through their hard work to become victorious and attain victory. .Tie liep Club tried to boost spirit by hanging vanous slgns around the Cheerleader Terri Buckley talks to Little Eagle Steve Thompson sc oo. Juniors had the honor of being the largest class at Del City High School during the 1971-72 school year. They displayed their size advantage through their ardent par- ticipation in school sponsored activities as well as their I diligent work on the Senior Prom. ln orderto raise money to sponsor the 1972 Senior Prom, the Junior class, aided by Mrs. Dana Waggoner, held an all school movie on February 10. Officers sponsored a contest to help choose the theme of the prom and the winning suggestion was Up, Up, and Away? These middlemen spent most of January, February, and March planning decorations and band selections. 1 Leading the way through an exciting and rewarding year were the Junior class officers Dale Jackson, presi- dent, Greg Terry, vice-president, Dara Wyatt, secre- tary, Kathy Malchor, treasurerg Terri Buckley, report- erg and Martha Creed, parliamentarian. The advisors for the Junior class were Mrs. Waggoner and Mr. Mur- ray Frank. Out of all three classes the Junior class has more responsibilities than the other classes. Adventure in all paths of life was dis- covered throughout the year for all Seniors at Del City. Time-consuming projects, like showing a movie to raise money for the Senior gift, kept the Sen- iors busy year 'round. Projects like these are what made the Senior class one of the best to ever graduate from Del City High School. Leading the Senior class this year were Mike Gray, president, David Roberts, vice-presidentg Janet Buckley, secre- tary: Genita Clark, treasurerg John Reasoner, reporter, and Rebb Jones, parliamentarian. A Senior . . . looked up to . . . envied by his fellow underclassmen . . . praised by his teachers . . . knows his responsibilities now are greater than any other time in his past. He looks to the future and searches for the right road to lead him to success. We also thank Mel Newsom Associates for their devoted cooperation in photographing and developing our photos, and delivering them to us before the due date. In addition, weld like to thank all the following merchants for their contributions to the 1971-72 vearbook: B 8c H Floor Company Auto Machine 8a Supply Company Farthings Del City Pharmacy B-.I Body Works Godsy's Sporting Goods Brannons C. And to the Seniors I would like to leave a thought. Re- member that your road is not ending, it is just beginning, a beginning of a new world and new life. There are joyous memories and sad memories left behind, but there are also bright futures, positions to be filled, scholarships to the tal- ented, and grades to be kept. The art of living does not consist in preserving and clingingt to a particular mood of happiness, but in allowing happinessl to change its form without being disappointed by the change, I for happiness, like a child, must be allowed to grow up. It is not a place or a building or people or things or events but in the final analysis it is an interaction of our thoughts, ourl memories. To each and every senior I extend a warm and sincere wish of I future happiness and opportunity. I wish for you only what I wish for myself. I wish you all the luck in obtaining your goals, and becoming the person you want to be. Because be- fore you can get the most out of your life and what it has to offer, you have to first be satisfied with yourself. Remember that the road to find out never ends. It grows in length and width if you open your mind and your eyes to what life has to offer. Good Luck!!
