We remember history and the hook reports for English, the note taking during films, and the educational assemblies. We all remember the first few weeks of Typing I! The original themes in English really shook us up. What about those first nervous days in Chemistry? History taught' us of the proud her- itage we have. Algebra and physics were snaps if you could translate the language. Foreign languages were really tough until we caught on. Parlez-vous francais? Bi- ology was another matter. Anybody remember where your latissimus dorsi is? Shorthand was ex- asperating for a while but the symbols finally clicked into place. The new cosmetology lab was a place of interest and wonder to most of us. Another year is coming to a close. Most of us have worked hard and learned a lot. We will al- ways rememher the things we learned at D.C.H.S. no matter what we do later on. During one very busy week, a Boys' Stater learns many things about politics, his country, and his country's -government by actually taking the places of legislators, execu- tives, and judicial officials. The stress at-Boys' State is on learning in order to become good citizens. From this learning comes a sense of patriotism and pride in America which too many people lack, Boys' State teaches many worthwhile things and Boys' Staters have fun learning them. I am very honored that I was selected to attend this valuable institution. Randy Heintz This past summer I had the pleas- ure of attending the 1964 session of the American Legion Boys' State. The chief purpose of Boys' State was to verse teen-age boys on the mechanics of state and federal government. Of course, the learning part of the pro- gram was important, but I think the friendships you win are more impor- tant. You can forget some of the learning but you can't forget the friends you made and the experiences you had. I wish and think all boys should have the experience of attend- ing Boys' State. C. E. Hunter My visit to Boys' State last June was one of the most rewarding and beneficial events of my life. Besides making friends with boys from all over Oklahoma, I was able to take part in and learn the many types of government we use today. The main function of Boys' State is to teach politics, voting, and the government to young people. I am very honored to have been chosen to attend Boys' State, and I wish everyone could have the opportunity that I had. Jerry Golden Bugs' and Girls State Look to the day for it is life was the theme of our 1964 Oklahoma Girls' State. We spent six busy days on the OCW campus along with 420 other girls from all over the state. By setting up a working model of a state, we were able to better learn and understand the processes of our state and national governments, -We developed a deep and lasting devotion to our country and flag. My fondest hope would be that every American would have the opportunity to attend a program of this type, and later real- ize his full potential in our American way of life! Nita Adams Attending Girls' State was one of the most wonderful experiences in my life. It was a week of new friends, new experiences, long, lectures on gov- ernment, political campaigns, and sleepless nightsg but it was well worth every hour of sleep I lost. I think every one of the 420 girls who attended Girls' State learned more about what it is to be an American and what responsi- bilities an American has than most people do in a lifetime. I just wish every girl could have the experience of attending Girlsf State. Mary Kay Sherman Going to Girls' State was the most wonderful experience of my life so far. The friends that I made and the things that I learned will remain with me for the rest of my life, I realized while at Girls' State that the ideals of America are vital to the world to- day and that each of us, as an Ameri- can, is an essential part of that ideal.
