N: s - H hu.. Lf le y Training For Future Opportunity The Student Store was a new addition to Del Campo this year. It was a class set up as a part of the Regional Occupation Program and was offered to juniors and seniors. It ran fourth, fifth, and sixth periods each day, and it gave students the opportunity to learn about the business world. It trained them in merchandising, mathematics, retailing, and selling. The Student Store was set up as a regular store. The employees checked in and out on a time clock. They were assigned different jobs which were manager, assistant manager, security, personnel supervisor, bookkeeper, payroll clerk, marketing supervisor, inventory and stock clerk, store clerk, sales and promotion supervisor, display, and advertising. Each student was rated on a student designed employee rating scale by his supervisor, the manager, and the teacher. From this rating came his grade for the course. The store sold candy, popcorn, school supplies, gym clothes, and various other items. They had sales on merchandise when it did not sell well. Their hours were one half hour before and after school and during all lunches. They also opened up for the junior high school students when they got out of school. Sometime during the year each student had the opportunity to work in an actual store for three weeks. This experience would later help when they sought employment. The Student Store was profitable and should continue to be a success in future years.
