The International Exchange Club is the student organization that is interested in all types of exchange programs and foreign travel and study. They were responsible for sending Mark Orchard and Brian Minuth abroad last summer, and for bringing Rosa Recio here this year. In the fall they had International Night, on September 27, where students spoke about their summer experiences abroad. Later they had their International Dessert Night, on February 6, where desserts from different countries were served. 'lihere is also an adult chapter ofthe International Exchange Club which helps raise money. I.I'f.C. also raised money by selling snow cones every Friday in the Gym Snack Bar during the warm weather, and they had as annual rummage sale in the spring.

Our punish Rosa The first thing that l want to say is thanks to Del Campo and all the people who worked so hard to bring me here. My first months were hard ones because the language and customs are different from those in Spain. The kids here don't go out like the kids at home do. There were always people out on the street in my city andl saw my friends everyday. Here it seems like people never go out of their houses, the streets are usually empty except for cars. VVe don't use the car as much as you do either, we wither walk or take the bus. :Xlso we always went out in groups and never dated just one boy. Our schools are different too. ln Spain the schools are not sociable like Del Campo, they are strictly academic. However, l have enjoyed going to Del Campo and l especially liked going to the basketball games. My spanish high school didn't have as good a team as Del Campo. California isa wonderful place to live and l liked learning about it with my family. I know that there are many good things that l have missed and that's whyl want to come back soon. I hope to see you again, love always, YN' ltlj' .rg 'W Ll L54 5?i5iIE'I.aza.... I 4 SIVQ. 'liop Left: Rosa caught by the camera. Cultural Exchange l spent my summer in Canas, Costa Rica. Canas is a very small town of one thousand to two thousand people and is in the northern part of Costa Rica. My stay consisted of ten weeks with a fantastic family. l had three brothers and one sister. My mother was a housewife and my father was principal at the highschool until he resigned so he would be able to run for senator from Guanacaste, the state in which Canas was located. Most of the time in Canasl went to school, which was held Monday thru Saturday. Un Sundays we would go three miles out of town to my father's finca franch J to work with the cattle. VVe stayed out there each Sunday from 8 am to 5 pm. l never knew ranch life could be so hard. Costa Rican food is good if you like rice and beans. These two foods were included in almost every meal. Our meat was supplied by my fathers two hundred head of cattle, so we had plenty of meat. Breakfast was the only meal that didn't consist of rice and beans. We were usually in a hurry to go to school, which started at 7 am, so we just had coffee and bread with honey. School let out at 11:30 am for lunch, which was usually the biggest meal. After lunch everyone would sleep till 2 or 3 pm. At 4 pm almost everyone headed to the basketball courts to play either basketball or volleyball. When that was over we all went home for dinner. After dinner it was very quiet unless there was a dance going on. All in alll had a great time. l will never forget the new thingsl have experienced. l would like to thank l. E. C., the A. F. S. staff, Mrs. Chambers, and everyone at Del Campo who made it possible. 77251446 Qgpjiafd my-Us l 'ifh..J'WQv- , ' gn .. ,m, mt, .L as V 5 .f.: Q .roi
