Keglers Fourth Del Campo's Bowling Team experienced a frustrating but fruitful season. After being with the leaders throughout the year, near the end of the season they lost Crucial games and finished fourth in the Capital Valley Conference. Outstanding bowlers were Bob Orr, with a 185 average, and Herb Linder. The highlight of the season was an e - citing win over front running Mira Loma. ln beating Mira Loma they set a league high for the highest team series. Our bowling team should be commended for sueh excellent bowling when the situation called for it. With only one senior leaving, Qrr, a fine team will return for next year. Bowlers to watch will include Linder, Jeff Wehling, and Ken Bunk. Top: Ken Bunk is a picture of determination. Far left: Bob Orr flicks his wrist for perfect rotation. Cougars Place Fifth Optimism reigned as the Cougar booters started out well and placed seventh in an early season section rating. The Cougar's varsity soccer team was a small team with a quickness on a dry field surpassed by few teams in the league. Unfortunately, Capital Valley Conference soccer season is played for the most part during the rainy season. This rain reduced the playing fields to muck. The ball would stick in the mud and the hapless Cougars would find themselves reduced to the same speed as the bigger, slower more muscular teams. These power teams started dominating the league and the Cougars finished sixth in the loop. Captains Dave Burgess and Morgan Nicol led the Cougars to a 5 win 9 loss 2 tie record. offensively, three players tied for the team scoring crown. These three were Dave Burgess, Brad Webber, and Roy Nuss each with six goals. Steve DiGioia followed with one goal and the ever present Morgan Otis tallied twice. Scott Murphy made fine plays from his wing position. Uefensively, Mark Leeper tended goal this season. Gary Dunn, Vic Kaliakin, Mike Mitchell, Dave Webber and Morgan Nicol buzzed around Leeper like protective mothers and helped keep the other teams' musclemen away form the goal. The varsity team will be hit hard by graduation. The seniors are Dave Burgess Steve DiGioia, Vic Kaliakin, Gary Dunn, Mike Mitchell, Scott Murphy, and Morgan Nicol. Coach Gary Summerhays will bring all the pieces together and mold a championship team from the fine ,l.V. crop and the returning lettermen Brad Webber, Dave Webber, Mark Leeper, and Roy Nuss. n Top left: Dave Burgess shoots against El Camino.
