Few people realize the pains for pangsj endured by wrestlers in getting down in weight to wrestle in a weight class. Urapplers run in place next to steamy showers to burn away excess poundage. No food ean be eaten on the day that weight must he met. VVatehing weight for wrestlers also ineludes a strict diet which must be followed every day. Coaeh joe Cavallero has turned wrestling into a major sport at D.C. He has built Del Campo into a powerhouse by 'lihe varsity wrestling team captured the duel meet ehampionship for the second straight year by outpointing the Bella Vista wrestling team, 34-19. lnstrumental in this win were the wins by Roy Grey, Gus Coolcsey, Harold Knepper, Phil lVIeClure, and Don Gross. The Cougar matmen then proved their win was no fluke by defeating Bella Vista and all other Capital Valley Conference teams in the league meet. The final tally for D.C. was 169 points with Bella Vista in second at 159W points. 48 J. V. Wrestlers Outstanding The j.V. wrestling team had a great season this year. Nip and tuck describes the race for the championship between the Cougars and Bella Vista. Upset in the last match of the season against Bella Vista, the Cougars took second. Coached by john Zupan, the xl.V. ripped through C.V.C. competition. Talented wrestlers Harry Myers, Remo Deregibus, Wally Gross, and Jeff McClure should give the varsity team valuable assistance next year. Leading the team in pins and points was Jeff McClure. Remo Deregibus did not lose a match all season and gathered second in pins and points. I-larry Myers and Wally Gross lost three matches between them and will be the core of the upper weights next year. John Thornsberry had a fine season at 9 wins, four losses and one tie. Others wrestling well were Larry Loveridge, Bob Warner, Tim O'Kelley and Bill Underwood.
