Impressive Tom Van Matre, Eric Morse, and John Edgar led this year's frosh harriers to the dual meet championship, the league meet championship, and a second place finish in the section meet. Tom Van Matre was undoubtedly the outstanding frosh runner and showed his ability by winning the C.V.C. League meet. Eric Morse finished eighth in the section meet. With a team as good as this coming up, Del Campo's future looks bright indeed. An exciting season brought third place to Del Campo in both dual meets and the league meet. Rick West led the Cougar sophs by placing fifth in the C.V.C. league meet. This fine team will bring more talent to the varsity cross country team next year.

Varsity Strong Depth was this year's varsity cross country team's strong point. The top five Cougars often ran in the top twenty finishers of most of the races. This depth pushed Del Campo into a tie for second place in C.V.C. dual meets and a third place finish in the league meet. ln placing third in the league meet, the Cougars knocked third ranked Bella Vista out of the section meet. Upsetting Bella Vista was accomplished by Bill Mumma placing fourth, Kevin Hansen placing fifth, Chris Garrett placing seventeenth, Bob Koch placing twenty-first, and John Van Matre finishing twenty-second. The Cougars ranked ninth in the section ratings. Next year's hopes look bright as only Bob Koch and Kevin Hanson are graduating. The other five of the top seven harriers will be back. Sophomore Bill Mumma ran brilliantly and should have an even better season next year. Steady describes Kevin Hanson's year. He was always near the top in all the races. Bill and Kevin battled all season for the top spot on the team. Sickness hampered Bob Koch's running all year long, yet he placed highly in most races. This year's surprise runner was Chris Garrett. Chris developed into a fine runner and should do well next year also. John Van Matre picked up needed places to insure Cougar victories. Matmen Win sport like football or basketball, it takes strength, stamina and quiekness. Few people realize the pains for pangsj endured by wrestlers in getting down in weight to wrestle in a weight class. Urapplers run in place next to steamy showers to burn away excess poundage. No food ean be eaten on the day that weight must he met. VVatehing weight for wrestlers also ineludes a strict diet which must be followed every day. Coaeh joe Cavallero has turned wrestling into a major sport at D.C. He has built Del Campo into a powerhouse by 'lihe varsity wrestling team captured the duel meet ehampionship for the second straight year by outpointing the Bella Vista wrestling team, 34-19. lnstrumental in this win were the wins by Roy Grey, Gus Coolcsey, Harold Knepper, Phil lVIeClure, and Don Gross. The Cougar matmen then proved their win was no fluke by defeating Bella Vista and all other Capital Valley Conference teams in the league meet. The final tally for D.C. was 169 points with Bella Vista in second at 159W points.
