s IW' 7 M Break Dancer Some people call it The Boogie. Some people call it break dancing. Some people call it getting down. No matter what a person labels it, one thing is for certain: Craig Watson knows how to move his body. He entertained the student body at homecoming by making a surprise appearance at a pep assembly. He then performed for a large crowd of students and local residents that afternoon right before the homecoming parade. Watson, a Chicago native, transferred to DeKalb from Louisianna for his senior year. What inspires him to come to a new school as a total stranger and confidently dance from class to class? It's something different. lt's something I like to do, because I think it makes people happy. lt's something I would like people to remember about their high school years. He has started as varsity fullback for three years. His junior and senior year were rewarded by the Upstate Eight with All-Conference honors. Dan's final year earned his peers' repect as Dan was named one of four co-captains. Wrestling was always Dan's next step. As a sophomore, he won varsity conference championship. His junior year, Dan was undefeated until the state finals. He graciously accepted his first defeat and second in state. However, Dan made a vow to become champion his senior year. He was team captain and rated among the top wrestlers in state in his final prep season. By standing tall in school and on the athletic field, Dan Boardman has made his name known among the excellent tradition of DHS athletes. Plans: College An Artist In Many Respects Have you ever gone walking down the art hall and had a drawing in the display case catch your attention? Have you ever paged through New Pennies to find a picture you really liked? Or maybe while reading the Barblet you've fallen in love with an illustration of your favorite record or movie. In any of these cases, there is a good chance that the artist to thank is Jim Ledbetter. Jim has been drawing as long as he can remember, and his record shows it. Jim has taken art classes in four years of high school. For the past two years he has been involved in the Artstrek Program at NIU. He also received a scholarship to attend a week-long art workshop in Champaign-Urbana. His work was displayed at an art show and won him the Gold Key award. He has won numerous awards for his work in New Pennies. In addition, the Barblet featured many of his illustrations this year. I Jim's influences range from the work of the Old Master to that of Modern Artists. An early influence was comic books. y On the subject of art teachers, Jim says, Teachers are mainly there for instruction and making the student aware of his or her abilities. But the most important learning comes from within. Jim plans to major in art next semester at NIU. From there, the sky's the limit. SeniorS!25
