Lehan, Coach Pett gell The Barbs' boys' basketball team finished the regular season with a l7-8 record. Seniors Steve Adkins, Curt Pardridge and Dave Melms led the team. The Barbs were the only team to beat state-ranked Rochelle and did it twice. First at the Leland G. Strombon Tournament 79-78, then on Jan. 30 at Rochelle's gym, 75-74. The team had their ups and downs throughout the year. After starting out with a 9-2 record, the Barbs dropped four straight. Of these four were loses to conference foes Lake Park, Aurora West and St. Charles which was the only team to beat the Barbs twice. The cagers went on to place third in conference with ai overall record of 9-5. This team was the best since the '77-78 Barb team which posted a 17-10 record. Dekalb had a total pin fall of 10,437 which was 370 pins better than last years winning score. Un which Dekalb wonj The Barbs bowled the tournax:nent's second best three game series of 2,686 and the best game total in the tournament's 10-year history. For the 12-game series, Peggy Graham led the Barbs with a 2,245 pin fall. This placed her second on the all-time IHSA individual pin fall chart. Shelly Johnson, Cheryl John- son, Shelly McKenzie and Rorry Halverson were Dekalb's All- Conference selections. Powered by senior Shawn Suter, and Sophomore Pam Pickett, the team placed first in the conference meet and tallied a third in district.
