Highlights of the season were second place finishes in both the Crystal Lake and Lake Park invitationals. The team competed in the Ridgewood and Sterling invitationals finishing fifth and sixth respectively. They finished third in District and placed seventh in Sectionals. Erika Dillxnan was voted MVP of this year's team and will return next year, along with varsity run rs Becky Swan, Amy Townsend, and ,WEA Woods to power the '82 team. But one of the bright spots was the performance of Jill Castleberry who made the All-Conference team. The Barbs compiled an impressive 4- dual meet record this season. DeKalb p aced second in the Crystal Lake Invitational, third at the DeKalb Invitational, and first at the Ridgewood Invitational. Pacing the way for the Barbs was senior standout Carleton Perry who took third out of 88 runners at the Crystal Lake Invitational. Perry also place fourth at the Ridgewood Invitational. The Barbs went on to place fourth at conference, and second at district Other varsity runners contributing to the success of this season were Mark Besserman, Bill Ginther, Eric Hendrickson, Mike Keding, Sandrino Luke, Pat Lary and Vance Russell. il l ww A . 'X Led by Brad Ben and Tom ' McGinnis, the team placed first Q3 and fourth respectively in the Riverside-Brookfield and the ' 1 Naperville Central invitationals. N The aqua-barbs finished second YN in both the conference and N district meets, qualifying four swimmers to the state meet. Tf'5McGinnis qualified in the 50yd L freestyle and 100 butterfly, setting a district record. Beil also set a district record qualifying 'Ni im for the state meet in the 2 yd medley. The girls' swim team finished the season with a disappointing 1-7 dual meet record. Dekalb placed fifth out of 10 teams in the Freeport invitational and competed in the conference and district meets placing third and fourth respectively. Two members of the team qualified for state competition, Sue O'Brien in the 200 and 500 freestyle, and Amy Damkroger in the 100 backstroke. O'Brien was elected MVP of the '81 team.
